Jozanna,
This is a very important part of teaching. The learning environment needs to be inviting and supportive for the students.

Its very important if you set up your class to be stimulating and inviting it will help the student be in a learning mood and retain more information .They also become more motivated.

The learning enviroment plays an important role in the intructional process by givng me feedbacks on how I am going to approach the class to better enhance the student's learning experience.

Very important role. It creates the atmosphere that the student will attempt to learn. It allows them to better focus on the course.

Robert,
It has a tremendous influence on the learning of students. They are distracted if they are focused on the temperature or external sounds. We need to teach in an environment where we can get and hold their attention.

I believe the environment plays a major role in learning because if the envionment is too loud, too hot or cold, ect learning may be difficult.

Don,
Knowing you have prepared content that is relevant and current and offering it in a variety of ways will engage the majority of the students. Knowing you are always professional in your approach also adds to the value of your teaching and will get the attention of the students.

The learning environment plays an extremely important role in the instructional process. Everything that could possibly take away from a comfortable learning environment basically adds another distraction to the student, preventing him or her from focusing on the real task at hand. Temperature or lighting of the room can easily be enough to distract a student from the course material.

you can't please everyone but you can try to please most of them

There are so many factors that can change a learning environment. The student population, whether large or small, can influence and change the learning environment daily. Being proactive in any negative changes can help to reduce future student effects on your learning environment. Climate is a huge learning environment issue. Who doesn't remember the dark, warm, head bobbing movies of classes gone by? Providing a well lit, blinds down (outside distractions), and cool classroom may just keep students from rolling their eyes back into their heads. Moving around the classroom and projecting your voice (I tend to be somewhat LOUD)can help return these students back to your lecture.

In my opinion the learning environment is almost as important as the method of instruction. For example, if the students are distracted in class by noises outside or next to the classroom it will certainly distract them from the course content. If they are comfortiable in class they are more likely to focus on the instruction.

The learning environment plays a big role in how students are able to learn. I had a situation where there were students in the class picking with others students, and it really effected the learning environment. The situation was handled and eliminated; once the situation was settle the environment was comfortable enough for all the students to engage in the learning process.

the environment plays a huge role in the instructional process. It determines the type of activities you can and can't do. It can impact whether or not a student feels comfortable or not. The way the chairs are aligned gives an impression on how the students will expect to interact with eachother. Groups, circle, classroom style, etc.

What types of items are on the wall or not on the wall also send a message. A picture says a thousand words...so your learning environment is speaking many more thousands words to your students. YOu need to make certain that it says what you want it to say. (organized, messy, focused, etc.)

The learning environment is very important because it allows that person to be in that working environment before he even gets out of school, so that he or she is more prepared. If you feel comfortable your ability is to relax and your brain can function properly.

Asha,
I like this strategy. Things like this make a real difference for the students and shows them the value of what is being taught.

Annette,
Temperature seems like a little thing but it isn't as you mention. We need to look at our classrooms through the eyes of our students and this will help us to set the environment at a comfortable level for maximum learning.

Gives the student the proper enivroment to lean and keeps their attention span on the topic that you are discussing.

The learning enviornment should be cordial and must reflect the topic being learn in class. I usually use a pin board to display student work. This gives some perspective to the class as to what we are achieving as the class progreses. This also helps the students to reflect back to the topics we covered in class by looking at the material on the pin board.

I agree that the actual climate inside the room makes a huge difference. I try to keep my classroom at a comfortable temperature (if possible). I notice a big difference in the attitudes of my students when the room is an uncomfortable temperature. I also remember how hard it was to concentrate, when I was a student myself, when the room was too hot.

Cecilia,
This is always a tough sell because the administration does not want to spend money on things like classroom settings. You have a better chance of selling your needs to the administration if you tie the need directly to a learning deficiency. Also, for example using the dimming situation you mentioned, I would put a cost to the installation of a dimmer switch in the class. By having the cost available sometimes administrators will give the go ahead for the installation because the amount doesn't seem a lot. Then you can cost out the next thing you want. What you are doing is giving them increments rather than the total cost. Just an idea that has worked for me.
