John,
With there being so many different definitions of relaxation it is hard to settle on just what this means. Yes, the students need to be relaxed but also they need to be comfortable and feel accepted in the learning environment by the instructor and peers.

Do you think that it is important for students to be able to relax during class? I do. I thought that was odd that that wasn't marked as a correct answer in regards to a "playing an important part in the learning process".

Its important not just to the student but to the instructor as well, if the class does not make the instructor comfortable as well as the student then it will be hard to relay a scene of confidence upon the students.

Larry,
Well said and something we should not take lightly. The environment does make a difference for learners.

The Learning Environment is a pivotal platform in determining anything from how comfortable a student feels being in class to whether the student retains any knowledge of the instructed subject material.

The environment in the classroom should be comfortable and inviting so if you have to rearrange the desks then do so You as an instructor will need to set the tone.

Rickey,
Well said. Sometimes we forget the environment in our instructional planning and we can't do this due to the impact it as just as you mention.

Rachelle,
Supportive and comfortable are two essential elements of a learning environment. You make a good about how having such a classroom encourages students to become part of the class.

The learning enviroment plays a key role in the success or falilure of a student. If a student feels comfortable in their enviroment they will preform better, if they feel they are in a hostile enviroment they will most likely not do as well.

I agree with your post Leonard. Without a sense of comfortableness in the classroom students are less likely to come to class, participate during class discussions and ask questions to further expand their knowledge about a certain subject.

The learning environment plays an important role in the instructional process. Students must feel comfortable and safe as they learn. This will encourage students to ask questions, answer questions and respond to comments. Students also need to have a strong understanding of the course content that will be discussed during the class.

Jamie,
Having taught in such a setting myself I can appreciate how challenging it is for you and your students. In my situation they put three classes in one room. We each picked a corner and that was our "classroom". It was tough for everyone and as a result all of instructors left the school after our course session was completed.

I our learning enviroment it is a challenge sometimes dealing with noise and distrations from other classes. This is distracting to our students and frustrating to us as instructors.

It plays perhaps the most important role. regardless to the preparedness and ability of the instructor, if the student is not comfortable about his or her surroundings, it will be difficult for the experience to be positive; therefore, institutions must assure that the learning environment is condusive to the student's ability to learn minus any controllable distractions

The learning environment sometimes is a challenge especially when you have challenging students that come to school for the wrong reasons.

Size of classroom relative to number of students is critical for comfort; extremes in classroom temperature cam hinder learning; seating must be strategic and comfortable so that students can see the instructor and the board easily and not be figiting because they are uncomfortable. I'd say the classroom is a critical component to the learning process.

Joseph,
It really does due to the impact it has on the minds and learning sets of the incoming students.

Learning environment does play a role in enhancing the nature and quality of what occure in the classroom, and can also change instructional process, good or bad.

By us working in the operating room you want to make sure everything is ready for the case you are preparing for with all of the supplies

Kit,
Interaction with students is a great way to earn their respect and establish rapport with them as the course progresses. You make a good point about the value of this effort.
