Doing things right from the beginning will save you and your students time. Being positive and transmitting positive energy to your students will help them learn and keep them coming back for more.

Making a positive impression when starting a new class is very important in order to establish credibility of the instructor and the course. A positive first impression can ease tension in the course and reassure the students the significance of the course.

A positive first impression is a must. The first impression will determine a lot of things. The students may associate you with how you represent your self on day 1.

I think that some people first impressions are the best. When making a good first impression you have to really dig deep and capture a person attention.

Margeaux,
This is a great point to make for instructors. Positive first impressions need to be maintained or all effort will be lost. This is where ongoing modeling remains a must. The students need to see the instructor in a positive light throughout the semester.

Lima,
It is so much easier to move forward with a positive first impression rather than spending time digging out of a hole that was created by being negative.

Making a positive first impression is important for several reasons. It will set the tone regarding "leadership". A positive First Impression can go long way in relieving student anxiety and providing an assurance that a knowledgable and experienced professional is in charge of your learning experience and class room environment.

I feel it is essential to the success of your class to present yourself as professional, organized, prepared, and knowledgeable as possible. This will also establish the expectation that you will have of them.

While I do believe that a positive first impression facilitates an effective student-teacher relationship, I also feel that maintaining that impression is equally important. Failure to follow-through or presenting yourself in a completely different light on subsequent class days may leave your students feeling as though you lack integrity. It's important that you're able to keep up appearances by showing them a continuous 'positive first impression' through your actions.

First impression always counts and will set your authority foundation for the remaining sessions. You will gain respect of your students and will make it easier for you to grab their attention.

Terizian,
Yes, it is important to not jump to a conclusion early when meeting students for the first time. Just as you are making an impression on they they are on you so both entities need to be open to receive input from each other.

i agree i try not to judge the book by its cover, so i try to give my student before decide their personality

A negative first impression (such as being late, or not showing interest and enthusiasm for your presentation) will damage considerably (and most times, irreversibly) the student-teacher bond.
A good first impression should inspire in the students both trust and respect.

a positive first impression will set the tone for the rest of the class. When the students feel comfortable with you and know what is expected of them they will want to come back to class.

It sets the tone... You lead by example...

It makes the day and students feel comfortable and at ease..Being negative is not promoting good work ethics, brings morale of everyone down including students.
Smiling and interacting and getting to know the students is what I do first.

First impressions are hard to change. In an interview people are at their best for the same reason. Once human perceptions are formed during first contacts they are hard to change. Plus instructors set the rules and roles from day one. If they are not strictly professional on the first day all the wrong impressions will be formed about them and the students will not perform.

To me a first impression is important because it's not something oyu can get back and re-do. A first impression sets up how your students will view you from day one.

Students make an opinion the minute they see you, so it is important to be on time, have the necessary materials and be professional.

It's important because it sets the expectations and tone for the whole term. The students will take you more seriously and like coming to class to learn from you.
