A positive impression for the first day defines the personality of the teacher. It set the tone how the content of the class will be delivered for the period.
The first impression it is very importan because sets the mood for the term. It helps to stablish a professional relationship between the teacher and the student. It creates and image of the Chef which the students can use to see themselves in the future.
A positive first impression sets the tone for the course. Things usually loosen up as the course continues but it is easier to loosen things up than to tighten things up.
It helps set the tone of the class and how the instructor operates. It also lets students know about the instructor's personal style on teaching.
Making a positive first impression helps set the standard from the beginning. This helps establish the foundation to build a solid, professional, working relationship with goals and objectives.
Rosa,
So true and so important.

thats where you set the tone for the class
Having a positive first impression is crucial in gaining respect of the students and also helping them feel they can succeed in the class. The students will be more at ease if they are given a strong positive first impression.
I believe that that first impression is so important because you not only represent the class, but the college as well. What they think of you & how they perceive an instructor is how they might see everything else. So look the part, dress the part and act the part. "pactice what we are preaching."
Lillian
Juliana,
So true. The students need to see their instructor as a professional educator that is organized and prepared to help them acquire knowledge and skills required for their career field.

A positive first impression will definitely set the tone for the course. An Instructor should be well prepared, professionally dressed, and have a pleasant tone and voice to welcome students. The positive first impression will help students know what to expect from the Instructor from day 1.
The first impression is made almost immediately when the student enters the class room for the first time. That positive impression will allow for a better learning environment and better flow of ideas. A negative first impression will have to be overcome before you can fully impress your teaching skill upon the students.
This is a two way street, a student who make a negative first impression on the teacher is already behind the eight ball and will have to overcome that first impression just to pull even with the other students.
If as an Instructor you cannot provide a good impression, the students may not listen, or feel respect. If the student feels this way, they will not have a mind-set which is conducive to learning. And may not be able to achieve proper academic goals.
Amanda,
So true and so important. Getting students settled into a new course and feeling confident about their ability to be successful is critical. A positive first impression sets the stage for future classes that will enable the students to continue along the success trail.

A positive first impression is important when starting a new class so that you can show your students that you care, you are competent, and you want them to learn. If you have a bad first impression, this could impact classroom control and student retention.
Your students are going to be listening to and learning from you for a varying but typically extended period of time. It is important that the students trust and respect you from the minute they walk into the classroom. By highlighting your professional achievements and experience your students will respect you as an accomplished member of the field that you are teaching. By making this clear from the beginning students will trust your ability and competency immediately which is invaluable, not only to keep order in class but also to keep students interested in the course material.
Anything with positive energy will help with the start of a new class. A positive first impression is important because, especially dealing with adult students, they have families, work and everything else that is probably stressful for them and more than likely they are in school for self satisfaction, so it makes the experience all the better if the instructor gives a stress free and positive first impression.
"First impression is a lasting impression." You want your first impression to your learners to be something that they can associate the course with. You want to be prepared, be specific about what your expectations are and let them know that you are in that class for them.
First impressions are important in every aspect of life. Most of the time you only have one chance to make a good impression. The first time a person meets you they are already forming opinions about you and your course. Therefore, you want to make sure your first impression gives them a sense of everything your expecting from them as a student.
Carlos,
Right you are. This sets the stage to build a positive learning environment for the students and keep them progressing toward their career goals.
