I will consider the learning styles of the majority of the students. I will vary my teaching style to incorporate all styles. While imparting information that needs to be taught to the students I will add some of my experience in the private practice of dental hygiene.
Hi Barbara,
This is a great support for your students. How do you get them to come to your tutoring sessions? Thanks for your feedback on this because many instructors want to provide tutoring but aren't sure how to set it up.
Gary
Hi Joshua,
Students really like these stories as you well know. The key point is the one you made they must apply otherwise the instructor will quickly be viewed as someone that just "rambles" about his or her life with no connection with the course.
Gary
I offer alot of extra tutoring to my students.
I rely on openess and rapport with the students, before continueing I check in with them to see if they understand the material, if so I continue, if not I direct the information to those not understanding in a way that is conducive to their learning style.
I agree whenever possible if they can see and do at the same time I find it is much more benefical. Also connecting to prior knowledge too.
I try to incorporate as many learning methods as I can in my class. I give handouts, provide a powerpoint for visual, give reading and homework assignmentsand give hands on activities to incorporate active learning. Some activities I do occur simultaneously so incorporate as many learning styles as I can in the short time we are together in class.
Personal storeis are agreat way to change the pace in the class. It gets away from the powerpoint and gives the students a real world example of the course. It also adds humor with some of the stories. Stories work well as long as they are applicable.
I use medical terminolgy discs to show the students.
Hi Chrissy,
Great idea. This is a win win for everyone. They get to have fun as well as learn critical content through application.

I vary my delivery methods. I combine straight lectures with shared discussions and even letting the students lead the discussion and then act as moderator. ~ Sandra
By integrating real life experiences and encouraging group work.
Be accessible, be sensitive and show students that we care.Identify successful methods for reaching out to struggling students.
I agree. Hands-on labs are quite helpful for students during their the learning process.
I try to address different learning styles during class by utilizing strategies involving reading, listening, audio/video. This helps students stay focus the class content.
one of the strategies would be to bake a cake with white icing on it, bring it in to the students and let them put colored icing on it, to make a color wheel for a makeup class to help them understand color theory. the best part is if the students participate the get to eat it!
Hi Julien,
Good strategy for helping the students to "connect the dots" between the content and application. This is what makes the course relevant for them.
Gary
I make sure that I include a lecture, either short and summarized or extensive depending on the material, a visual aide - usually a power point, and a demonstration. All of these things are used to prepare a student for a lab where they will put this knowledge to use.
Hi Rizalina,
You are on the right instructional path with the variety of deliveries that you have planned. Keep up the good work and your students will be engaged in the course throughout the duration.
Gary
The class I teach, utilizes a little of all learning styles. We start with a lecture to introduce the students to the topic, within the lecture we have a Q&A session and group discussion. I noticed this changes things up for the students and helps keep them focused. There is a break, allowing them to gather their thoughts and absorb what was lectured. Then we move into the lab section of class, were I will do a demonstration and Q&A session. After that I will "let the students loose" to have a hands on portion of class, while I monitor for competency.
