Giving a variety of instructional methods for learning purposes.

Hi Benjamin,
Both of your reasons for offering instructional variety reinforce the need for good planning when it comes to choices of instructional delivery. If students are to remain engaged in the learning process throughout the course they need to have opportunities to learning in their preference areas and have the content be fresh and exciting.
Gary

It is important to offer a variety of instructional methods for a number of reasons. First, different people have different learning styles. So implement different methods of delivery increases your chances of reaching more students.
Second, utilizing a variety of methods will help keep your class fresh and exciting. This will help to keep the students' attention and increase learning.

Hi Angela,
Good examples of why we need to offer our students variety in the learning process. They need to be able to use the different opportunities you present to capitalize on their own preferences.
Gary

Hi Rodrigo,
You make a number of good points about how to approach the planning for and delivery of instruction. Variety appeals to the different student learning preferences and assists in bringing excitement to the classroom.

I need to incorporate as many different ways to deliver the knowledge the students will need to be successful. As we all know, there are a wide variety of ways that people learn, and the more variety that I can incorporate into our lesson plans, the more I reach. Also even though I might learn just fine by hearing the information, by having subjects given to me all of the ways possible, it reinforces what I have learned, and helps me to remember details that I may have overlooked.

Hi Justin,
Your last sentence captures the essence of how we need to meet the needs of our students. By helping them know how they learn best we can target our instruction and the students achieve learning success. A win win for everyone.
Gary

Hi Bronwen,
Good point. Adults are looking for ways they can be successful in the course especially if they have been out of school for a number of years. By offering variety you are letting them see how they can learn the material by using their life experiences and the different learning deliveries.
Gary

Hi Dr. Dunlap,
So true. Variety in instructional delivery is a must. This will help to keep their interest and focus. If we don't offer variety as we all know they will be zoned out for the duration of the class.
Gary

There are many different learning styles and in order for a instructor to effectively include all students in the learning process, he/she has to incorporate all the methods of deliveries possible. Not only this is efficient, but also keeps the material from becoming stale. I incorporate also, requesting their opinion on the subject. This allows the students to interact with their peers and gives me the opportunity to vary the method of delivery depending on the learning style of the group. I only make sure that the point I am trying to put in their minds is reached sometime in this interaction.

Every student learns in a different way. Some may be auditory, while others may be kinestetic or visionary. I try to mix up my activities and lectures so I apply a little bit to each style. The important thing is to make sure that the students understand what type of learner they are.

I find that, particularly with adults, the learning styles vary. By sometimes using varying teaching deliveries of the same material, I am able to reach more students than by just explaining the information once in 1 particular way.

Although students have a predominant learning style, they appreciate materials being present in a varied manner. This mode of presentation maintains the student's interest and enables students to comprehend and demonstrate mastery of the material.

Hi Blake,
I agree. Changing things up help to make content delivery more exciting for both the students and the instructor. If we become bored with our delivery it is for sure the class will be for out students.
Gary

Instructors tend to teach in the methods that they themselves learn best. While it may seem the best for ourselves, our students seem to be quite diverse. It is good to switch it up fromm time to time to mix up the class a little bit while catering to the needs of our varied student population.

There are varied types of learners and to allow for each studednt to get the most of their lerning experience there must be a way to keep the information fresh and fun. This also keeps the studne tengaged in what is going on in the class and interested in what is to come.

It is important to identify the ways that your individual students learn. This can be hard in a large classroom setting and requires significant time committments to be done well. By varying instructional methods, we can take a shortcut and try to reach as many students as you can by hitting on their preferred method of learning. It's kind of a "shotgun" technique, but it ensures that the highest number of students get an opportunity to learn in the way they feel most comfortable.

The importance of varying our Instructional Delivery is that everyone is not going to learn either in the same fashion or at the same speed. By identifying with the individual, we are not just providing the student with the tools to be successful in the course, but we are achieving our goals at multiple levels, making the student actually feel we care about them and enhancing the motivation opportunity and establishing the instructor as a professional and role model.

You want to reach as many students as you can and not everyone learns in the same way. By offering a varied delivery you can reach more of the students.

Hi Martin,
Right you are. This helps to target the learning preferences of students and that in turn increases the engagement factor for them.
