Sharon,
I support this idea as well. Good strategy to use.

I have over 30 years of practical career experience. I attempt to provide examples of how even the simplest of concepts has relevence in the more advanced or complex procedures, for example understanding pH in basic chemistry has phsyiological consequences in more advanced biochemistry and pathophysiology courses.

By using adapting techniques and strategies

I use my practical knowledge and infuse it into my lesson plan so I teach everything the student needs to know.

Awesome! I love the idea of having them observe each other and then having the observer help them determine if that is their learning style.
Some students may not know what their learning style is AND you have the added bonus of knowing who is what type of learner and addressing their style when working with them one on one.

Paulette,
Students love to work on case studies and to hear about real world examples they will face in their careers. These stories help them to see the value of the content and how that content is going to help them in their future career development.

I often relate the course material to real world situations, events and circumstances.

In implementing relevacy I use real life situations. By combining the content with relevant material and ture life situation, it address the learners need, Example Taking messages. I will have them play that out and fill out the message forms. This shows mw if they can relay proper information from what they hear.

Interaction techniques, useability testing, presentation guidelines, interface design process

Tram,
This is so important. Connecting content with application.

Sherry,
You have a very well balanced approach to the classroom that provides students with many learning opportunities while keeping them engaged. This is what effective instruction should be about.

1) School requirements
2) Most common situations
3) Updating information
4) Progressive process learning (means that the previous information will be need it for future topics)

Implement also help studen relate the theory and apply to the real life

Following the outline and inputing the demonstrations will keep the students engaged and applying what they just heard.

One of the strategies that I will used while implementing relevant course material is making sure that the information that I am teaching is relevant and that I am teaching it in a way so that the students can remain enthusiastic and involved with the lecture. I will make sure that my lecture is cohesive with the course objectives that are outlined in the syllabus and and at the start of each chapter. I also will also make sure that that students have fequent breaks so that they can retain more information.

Thanks,

Ketly,
Good strategy for making your course content both relevant and viable in terms of the students' professional goals.

I try to utilize a mixture of approaches in each session. Lecture to introduce new material, activities to allow the students to apply what they have learned and group reviews for comment and reinforcement. By having the students work together it allows the development of a cohort and learning community which in turn allows me, by observation, to see what learning styles are favored by which students.

IN the relevant places during lecture ,I discuss my own experiences in the field and share humorous stories that have happened to me. I try to let them know what to expect when they get into the field.I also have guest speakers come in to ti in what I am teaching with real life.

Antonio,
I use pretesting in all of my courses for the reasons you have stated. The results give me a baseline on my students and my instructional planning can be more targeted to their needs as a result.

I share my own entrepreneurial experience related to the lessons: lecture, demo and production. I teach students how to use, market and sell their knowledge during tough economic times like what people are experiencing today. During lecture demo, and production days, I emphasize how to save time, money and reduce cost in order to make a good quality and profitable product.
