You are showing your students both application and relevancy

The Pre-Test ios a very good tool available in order to evaluate students knowledge. It should only take a few minutes as an instructor to be able to stablish an idea of how to approach teaching to different individuals; at the same time, by speaking to the students individually and asking them if they have any prefered method of the ones available.

To accommodat a variety of learning styles, I try to mix up course content in a variety of ways. Students tend to disconnect after a short time as stated in the course.

David,
I know you will like the results you get when you teach using different instructional modes. This way the students will get to use their different preferences and become more engaged in the learning process.

I am brand new as an instructor so I have not yet mastered the different learning preferences. I will concentrate on learning the different preferences so I can incorporate them into my current teaching methods.

Invitation of guest speakers.
Application of content to real life situation.

By reviewing either personal life experience or a case study in a textbook helps students to apply the knowlegde to real life situations and to better understand the information

As a new instructor I like using powerpoint presentations for all major topics to be covered. Since this is not easy for all learners to retain, I also like to incoporate questions to the class, diagrams, role playing or discuss real life experiences. I also use demonstration, and hands on learning for trial and error. I try to use many different styles, since I remember the sleepy "lecture only" classes I slept through.

Juliana,
I like this approach as well. I use games and activities like you listed to review for quizzes and get the students involved in using their newly acquired knowledge. They have fun while learning a lot.

In order to engage my students, I have created memory or knowlege retention exercises in the forms of games; such as matching flash cards with instruments, or even "Jeopardy" with past exam questions. The first has allowed my tactile students to have a better retention of the information that has been provided within the course, and the second has allowed my auditory/verbal students to interact, and retain more information.

I tend to mix my lecture. Spend sometime lecturing, I have plenty of hands on activities due to I am teaching Dental Hygiene, also have prepared self learning activities.

I like to do demos in the class. The tudents seem to understande the subject performed

Pinpointing the learning preferences of your students can be difficult if not impossible. Teaching using a broader range of techniques will generally always result in immediate and noticeable improvement in students knowledge of the covered subjects.

using all different teaching techniques in each class to cover all types of learners

I use video clips and use daily quizzes based on the previous meetings lecture.

Instructors are given a set of guidelines to adhere to when teaching a course and those objectives must be met in order for the course to count. Prior to every class I go over the objectives for that period and create an outline to make sure I stay on track.

Ideally, a case study is presented after the material has been reviewed. Small groups of 3 or 4 students then brainstorm how the newly presented information could impact the health of their hypothetical patient.

I am a dental instructor so I deliver my course material in several ways, In the classroom I lecture and use powerpoint and in the dental lab I demostrate hands on skills. The students really seem to like that the information is delivered several ways.

Joanne,
Yes they will look at it closely. There needs to be clear ROI for the students as they work through the course.
