Hi Colette, Great point - we need to also encourage students to adapt to styles that may not be what they would normally prefer. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Hi Katrina, Thanks for your post to the forum. this is why talking to students about learning styles is important. Often, they have no idea about how they learn most effectively. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Hello,
It is extremely important to the learning process due to the fact that students learn in various ways. Although a student's dominant learning style may be auditory, he/she can also develop a stronger understanding of a topic by being introduced to the material through other resources; such as, diagrams, colorful handouts, reading their textbook, typing outlines on the computer, working with his/her peers in groups, etc.

I think it shows your students that you are committed and dedicated to their learning and success. When the student sees you as the instructor are going the extra mile to identify what works best for them they will go the extra mile for you. I feel more prepared and developed as an instructor when I am equipped with several strategies and resources for my students.

Hi Karen, Thanks for your post to the forum. That is it exactly. yes, it does take effort to find creative ways to meet the learning styles of our diverse students, but the results are well worth the effort! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

When students are functioning within their learning style they will process and retain more information. As educators we must do our best to accommodate each individuals learning style when delivering information. We must find creative ways to integrate different approaches to the same information. Resources that match their learning style is imperative to create momentum for the learners.

Hi Sara, Thanks for your post to the forum. I totally agree that varying our delivery as often as possible is the best strategy! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

You've got to know how to reach them. What is the best delivery method for each student. Not every student who is a visual learner "gets" things in quite the same way to even within learning styles varying the delivery keeps everyone engages and keeps content fresh and interesting.

Hi Elli, Yes, students see that we are working to meet their learning styles and appreciate our efforts! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

All my students in the Medical Assisting Program have different ways of learning. Some have a combination of learning styles such as the student who takes notes alongside the powerpoint presentation but can't wait to get "hands-on" in a lab setting for learning injection techniques. It is important to support the learning styles or students will feel as if they are "failures" when they "don't get it." Knowing my students method of learning will be a win-win for me and them because they will see it just takes an empathetic instructor to see they can do it; just give them opportunity to succeed.

To reach all of the students in your class by incorporating different learning methods and to help the students learn different ways to learn.

Hi Lawrence, Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using a good mix of assessments! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

I am able to use multiple choice, true and false, and matching test very successfully. The type of stuff I teach does not blend well with essay tests.

Primarily for their success in building the skills necessary in being successful in the food service industry. Our format allows this to happen almost naturally. We discuss the topic, is demonstrated by the instructor, students are urged to take notes during lecture, and viewing video & power point. Then they PRACTICE those skills to reinforce.

Hi Scott, Thanks for your post to the forum. You describe great classroom interactivity which always improves learning. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Since comprehends differently and at different speeds, I try to involve all different types of learning styles in my lectures and demo's. For the kinesthetic learners, I involve a minimum of 2 student 'helpers' to assist me. I actually discuss my techniques and allow the students to complete the tasks with me. In the event a "mistake" seems imminent, I use this as an opportunity for learning. I point out what might happen if my directions hadn't been followed. Students love the extra hands on work.

Hi JanetMarie, Thanks for your post to the forum. That is exactly the point- we need to vary our delivery to reach all of the learning styles. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

By providing various approaches and resources that compliment the learning styles of your students, you also provide them various methods to show that they have learned the content/skill. Most students have 2 ways that they prefer to learn and 2 methods that need to be strengthened. By teaching on all levels, you challenge them.

Hi Su, Thanks for your post to the forum. As an online instuctor also, I agree with you that we need to include as many delivery options as possible in our instruction. Best wishes for success in your teaching career.
