I use power point with pictures and lecture to teach. I alway incorporate one project in every class where the students create thier own power point and teach the class themselves.
Learning can occur in many ways, but instructors must ensure they teach to captivate the audience they are addressing.
It is important to supprt the differnt styles of learning stles of you students because they are indivisuals and some people learn things in differnt ways.

Each class usually have all the learning styles present so I will use a power point with multiple pictures for those that are visual, assign a written chapter or section of a chapter that applies to my presentation for those that are written learners. I will also use something physical in my presentation that can be picked up and handled by those that are kenesthetic and finally, those that are auditory will pick up on what I talk about during my presentation. I don't lecture...I present material.
Hi Micki, Thanks for your post to the forum. You state the case for teaching to the learning styles very well! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

In today's classrooms we have a diverse group of learning styles. It is beneficial to both the instructor and to the student if the instructor can figure out what learning style each student possesses. It can be detrimental in teaching any course if you only teach to one learning style as you are leaving some of the students out. We always need to remember that it takes all types to make the world go around and to make a class interesting. Each student can bring something new and exciting to the classroom in regards to their learning style.
Hi Madelyn, Thanks for your post to the forum. any strategies we can use to help our students are very worthwhile! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

It is imperative to identify and support each students' learning styles. If you do not, you have failed to do your job. Instructors are able to develop teaching strategies that will strengthen their individual learning and make them want to come to class to learn.
Hi Wanda, Thanks for your post to the forum. Excellent choices to meet the diverse learning styles! This can only yield better learning outcomes!

Learning styles are very important to me as a Program Director and instructor. We ask applicants prior to starting the program what their learning style is, and how they learn best. We also ask them if given an instruction manual, can they instruct someone else without hearing a lecture or someone else teaching them how to do it. This allows us to be prepared to instruct them and to improve the success rate of students.
As an instructor we attempt to meet all learning styles in the classroom. We give the students lecture notes to improve the auditory and reading component of the lectures, show power points/videos to improve the success of visual learners and perform activities for the tactile learner.
Most students are not one dimensional learners. They may be tactile and auditory or reading and auditory. The more ways we can incorparate learning styles in the classroom, the more success we will have.
It is a way to help students acquire knowledge in a way that supports them. When you complement the learning styles of your students you are giving them the opportunity to do their best.
Hi Karyn, Thanks for your post to the forum. Knowing our own preferred style certainly gives us insight into the benefits of varied delivery. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

Students learn in many different ways. Education is not "one size fits all." It is important to get a feel for the styles that a learner is most comfortable, so they can make the most out of the class.
It is also important to vary your content delivery strategies, to ensure that all students (with broad ranges of learning styles) have fair abilities to learn the materials.
Personally, I know that I am both a visual and kinesthetic learner. I realized this long ago. But it was confirmed when I took this class by breezing through, printing the materials, going back to the materials, and watching the videos more than once (as this is my preference.)
Students learn from different methods and styles and if we are to reach all of our students we need to have different approaches to the methods we teach. It is important to find out what style your students learn by early on so you can choose the necessary style to teach.
Hi Ken, Thanks for your post to the forum. Although it does take more effort to use diverse styles in our delivery, as you note, it is effective! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

In my classes, I am teaching a hands on,technical subjects. About fourty percent of my students have little or no background in mechanical knowledge. Therefore I have to use not only one style, but very often a combination of styles to reach these students.
I agree with you Scott, I too follow the same application. It really allows the student to apply their critical thinking skills and use what they have learned thus far into the curriculum. Sometimes it even helps realize how much they need to study for the next test.
Hi Rebecca, Thanks for your post to the forum. As you state, by utilizing diverse delivery, we can most effectively reach all the learning styles! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career.

You need to reach all students at some point of lecture or demo. By using different methods through out, you are ensured to have reached must of the students at one time or another
