Its sounds like the more ways you can show a student a subject, lecturing, internet, and hands on, the better chance everyone in the class will grasp it.

you can get everyone involved in the learning process, plus this way everyone is learning.

Working to find the learning styles of your students will produce successful results in student learning. Offering choices in learning in your syllabus may give students to choose projects that support their learning style. The instructor needs to vary the "how" in the classroom delivery to meet the different learning styles of students.

Amy,
The "Why" is a key point you make and agree it can add great results to student learning.

The information from a survey of your students' learning styles will enhance the choice of delivery modes of coursse content. I find it also helps to command class attention to vary delivery styles, add games, class participation, etc. I feel I still have much to learn in this area and am excited about this course.

We will have better retention from the students.
Plus by varying our styles we are letting everyone learn and when everyone learns we all win.

you must know the learning style of your class, so it allows for you to set up your class and lectures that will best suit your own class. You first have to find what style you work best in and then step out of that box for your class. You then need to build a class that will meet the majority of your classes learning style.

If one knows the learning styles of one's students, then those students are going to have the opportunity to demonstrate a much higher level of retention and acquisition of knowledge. It would be as if one were looking inside the brain of a student and had the capacity to actually see and confirm that the student is learning. The positive result of acquiring this information is that the instructor becomes a much more effective individual by offering a variety of learning styles. All students are being reached. Thus, it actually becomes a win-win situation.

I have found that often there is a class "brainiac" to whom the other students turn to for further elucidation of material. I therefore make certain I do a good job of relaying info to this student in their preferred learning style, so they can help me disseminate the knowledge to the rest of the class as needed.

Since I teach online, I don't have much control about what style I use to teach my students.

I have a student that prefers to learn accounting through the homework, now it makes sense to me that that is his learning style and I should work towards his strength.
