when you have an idea of the different learning styles of your students, it is easier to plan the lesson for them. The use of the combination of lecture, worksheets and power points, helps to get the message across to all students.
Hi John, Thanks for your post to the forum. You make a very good point - when we acquaint students with their learning styles they can do more to help each other learn, especially when we group them in teams with diverse styles. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Denise, Thanks for your post to the forum. Exactly! Even though it takes more work from us, up front, it has huge paybacks in the end!

you can reach more of your students more of the time.
First and foremost, varying your learning styles breaks up the monotony and shows the students you are more than just a "Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah, Wah!" lecturer. Applying more than one type of learning style in your classroom will envelope more students and give them the opportunity to interact as a team and potentially have the students teach each other the ambiguous topics.
Hi Steve, Thanks for your post to the forum. Absolutely, when we gear our presentations to address the learning styles, we increase retention. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Hi Jeanine, Thanks for your post to the forum. It's amazing how most students enter higher education with no clue about learning styles! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

By knowing the learnig styles of my students, it makes me a more effective instructor. I am able to zone in on my students needs and give them the information in away that they will get it.
Buy understanding the learning styles of our students we are able to alter our presentation of the materila so as to maximize the students ability to learn and retain the information. As opposed to them memorizing material and spewing it back for an exam. We need them to retain and recall down the line.
Students have more motivation and enthusiasm toward learning. They feel like they "get it" and are less frustrated. My students take a learning styles assessment as a part of their Career Success class. They love understanding themselves in this way.
Hi Cynthia, Thanks for your post to the forum. Your combination of activities is excellent! I think that repetition is beneficial in any program. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I find that in the program I teach in that repetition definitely helps. First the basic background information is presented in lecture style through power points/lecture/interactive classroom participation/sharing. Then it is reinforced with hands on demonstration while reiterating the material that was presented and allowing time for questions/answers to clarify what isn't understood. Most of the material my students are learning is new to them and this reinforces and supports their learning process.
I Agree. I believe, when teaching,if I include auditory, visual and tactile styles of learning then the students success rates will dramatically improve.
Knowing your learning styles of your students and incorporating it into each class is effective for learning for all students and makes the class much more engaging.
I agree. By using audio video and hands-on demonstration with combination of all three students learning outcome improve significantly because some students require auditory, visual or tactile stimulus.
I like this idea, Amy. I currently incorporate a lot of teaching methods, but I don't know if my students realize it. Explaining the "why" seems like an effective way to ensure that the students pay closer attention to the way information is being received.
Hi James, Thanks for your post to the forum. The hands on demo probably also benefits the other students as well. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

Hi Bridget, Thanks for your post to the forum. Yes, we need to gather as much information on our students that we possibly can. When we have the bigger picture we can be better equipped to help them. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

If I have a student that I know learns better by doing a task, I can have a hands on demonstration after a lecture on the subject before moving on to the next item on the agenda.
