By learning what the different learning styles are for my students, I can take this knowledge to benefit how I teach. The different styles require different approaches and possibly materials I can use. Having a variety of approaches to the subject creates a more dynamic class enviroment and makes me a more effective instructor.

Ruth Kunnu,
By knowing the learning styles of my students, student understanding of information presented would greatly be improved.

knowing the different learning styles of the students, I like to have discussions where students participate, I also have them do workbooks and have visual aides.

Hi Beth, Thanks for your post to the forum. Interesting! I wonder if that's becase the younger students are constantly immersed in visual media? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

If you know how your students learn you can give them the information in ways they are more receptive. Example I teach dental hygiene, and most of my students are Visual and Kinestic learners, therefore they don't pay attention and comprehend if I only do lectures from a book or power point so I basically tell, show and then have them do it so I cover all the learning types.

I have found that many younger learners have a very visual style of learning. Older, returning students seem to be auditory learners; both groups seem to be tactile learners. Teaching to a broad range of age groups certainly is challenging. I find presenting materials several different ways during the course appeals to most of the students learning styles.

Hi Darron, Yes, I agree- instructors who really are committed to teaching will work to incorporate activities that will reach all of the learning styles of their students.

the main reason is to be able to identify when a student is having issue retaining infromation. the best instructors have multiple ways to get there message across understanding the complexity in trying to cater to maybe 3/4 differnt learning styles within the classroom

Amy, this is a great strategy. During my introductory session, I ask each student to tell me what they hope to gain from the class and how they best like to learn. You are so correct..it's not about us!

Benefits...students' success! Knowing their syles will help me plan delivery methods that reach all students. It will also enable me to help them learn to master other styles to increase the likelihood of career success.

Hi Sundeep, Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using a great mix of deliveries!

As an instuctor nothing is more important to me then the satisfaction of helping my students retain the knowledge needed to make them successful. If I know the learning styles of my students and present the information using them I can achieve my goal quicker and more effectively.

If you are aware of the student's learning style, you can modify your teaching methods to best suit them. To effectively choose the right teaching methods, you must first know something about your students. The more you learn about your students, the better you are prepared to help them learn.
