I always mix it up on class. I have a power point presentation for an hour and then i have them watch a video. I will also take them into lab anad have them practice what they just learned.
I agree! I also draw on the white board and ask them to draw how they think it should be. This shows me how much they know, and shows them how much they know. I tell them, "if you can visualize it and draw/write it out, you know it.."
H Susan, As you point out, we do have to be creative in designing activities to address the learning styles, but, in doing so we increase our students' learning. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

if I know the majority of the learning style needed, I can get my job done quickly and effective. This will get the point across to alot of the students on the first attempt. It also pushes me to think outside the box, which is a good thing.
I explain learning styles to my students and as I do this I ask if any of the students in the class can identify with the style i am discussing. The important thing I emphasize is that there is no wrong or right way to learn. We all learn different ways and I have to reach all of the students by blending my teaching approach.
Once you learn the learning styles of your students, you can help them easily understand the objective.
Hi Carmencita, Thanks for your post to the forum. I am so glad that you found this class useful! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

If I know what style my students learn, then I can effectively put together a lesson plan that will work for them and help them understand better in class.
This Training was I mean EXCELLENT for me. Thank you. I have been using a combination of all styles. However, I have to admit I tend to get comfortable in the Lecture and PowerPoint Auditory/Visual style of teaching. This training is teaching me that I in fact have probably lost some of my other learning style students. I am going to make a whole-hearted effort to combine all learning styles so that I don't miss anyone in my class. This was an eye opening training for me.
Hi Cecilia, Thanks for your post to the forum. Absolutely, it is much more effective to give students the tools that they will need and then have them complete tasks on their own. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

Since I've been taking these CEE classes, one of the things I've learned is to vary my teaching methods to reach more students. For example, instead of doing everything for them (in an online search for example), show them, then ask (or assign) one of the students to perform an online search herself. This is the tactile approach wakes them up.
Hi Joanne, Thanks for your post to the forum. I think the key word that you used is "adapt"; we do not neeed to create new material to reach the learning styles - just adapt our delivery of that material. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

You can better adapt the material to a known learning style that will enhance the learner's experience and comprehension.
Hi Romana , Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree-when students understand the relevancy of what they are studying they become more engaged in their learning. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

I include different styles of instruction in my lecture to engage students at different levels.
I like to include examples of practical application of material in practice. This really engages the students.
it will assist in deliverying the information more effectively and efficiently.
Hi Shaun, That's it exactly!! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan

the benefits are going to be night and day difference. taking the time to find out your students learning style would definatly reduce stress for the instructor, it might take some time in the beginning ,but the pay-off at the end would be great.
