1st day books , sops, hand outs ect, are ready for them.stand by the door to greet them and to help them get ready for whats in store for the next 3 weeks.
set your class room to your material and your students. I move to all areas of the room. arrange your classroom prior to the students arrival. place your handouts at various seats. always encourage all to participate.
I like to make sure that all my handouts and materials for class and lab are ready for the day, and that any lab equipment we may need is in good working order. Then I review my notes and think about the lecture I’m about to give or the demonstration I’m about to present and make sure that I’, mentally ready for the day.
I usually will write on the white board the bullet points of the days topic. Also any acronyms that go with the material. This way the students can quickly identify what will be covered and what they need to understand.
While preparing for the day ahead, and reviewing the topic up first, set the class room up accordingly, including the materials to be handed out and lighting if using the computers. Set the tables and chairs to accodate the current class load, and set out visuals and training aids that will be used. If the air temp is not set at a comfortable temp, contact maint to correct. Prepare for any adverse event such as a computer problem. Be positive and available for the students.
Before class I make sure all training aids and equipment are working and ready. Durning class I go over the lab sheet and instruct them how I would like it done. I make sure all training aids in lab are working before going to lab.
I try to make sure I have some training aides around the room that I can point out during lecture. I tell the students that they are free to spend their break or lunch handling these things to get a better understanding of how they work. A picture may be worth a thousand words but having something in your hand allows you to truly understand it.
My room has visual aids all over the roon with hands on training aids.
Wow what a great idea Terrie! Real world experience is always the best teacher. The classroom or teaching area is an excellent way to learn.
Keep up the good work!

Hi David!
I agree starting with a clean, ordering room tells students that the instructor is prepared and eager to start the learning process.

I have colored system posters and manufacture stickers on the walls and white boards to remind the students about the equipment and who makes it.I also generate colored handouts to reinforce.
I start early and make sure all the equipment and lessons are ready and working correctly. I set up the lab and get the pages ready in my books and then the PowerPoint set up and ready. I also go over with the class what they are to do step by step and ask them to repeat back to me what they understand they are to do.
My 'classroom' is actually a business. Rather than having my students stay in one place behind the counter, I have them individually explore the area from the other side as a customer and make observations which we discuss. They are also an active part in choosing music and get to see what effects the music has on the business flow. A part of the discussion is about different aromas and how they affect the business.
Always start with a clean lab and work board
The room is set up in a u shape. Colorful relates material is on the wall. Also have practical training aids, parts examples out. Computers are against walls on separate tables. Students work individually on webb training than come together for lesson discussions away from computers. We also are able to have comfortable seating for the students.
GREAT Terry!
Even though I facilitate learning in an adult environment, I often go to the teachers store and get fun, brightly colored "stuff" for the classroom. For example, I have 3 inch in diameter blue and yellow stars attached to important info that I want students to remember.
How do you have the training aids presented? Have you included color and interesting holders of information? I often use baskets of various sizes as holders.
Be creative and make it fun!
Good job!

I have the class U shaped with the screen being the focal point. I like to walk around the room and keep everybody engaged.I also have posters on the wall and training aids in the middle of the room on a table.
I have posters of important illustrations I use in my lecture matter. When I lecture and explain the illustrations, I feel the students solidify the information or concept by seeing the illustration daily evan after I finished that lesson plan.
We start with thw U shape table design & comfortable chairs. It allows for instructor to student & student to student interaction. Materials are placed around the room for the students to interact with to help drive home some points that we are talking about.
Prior to class we arrange the tables and chairs in a "U" shape towards the front of the class. This allows for good interactions between the instructors and the students. We only put 2 students per table to give them some personal space. We also provide a table to put backpacks on so the floor isn't littered with them. We use videos, pictures/posters on the walls and training aides. We can pass around the training aides to the students so they can see them while we cover the lecture materials. The colors in the room are the manufacturers whites and blues so that helps to sooth the atmosphere in the room.
