John,
hang in there. I hope you get a better understanding after reviewing.

Dr. Ryan Meers

To tell the truth I don't understand the question. I'm going to go over 107 again because I just don't get it.

This exercise helps in identifying different personal attributes in each student. Each student can recognize what works for them, if they like to do things alone, or in groups. Do they have something in common with another student, do they see themselves as unique. It is a good self recognition for the class and the instructor to see the interaction and the lack of interaction.

This exercise maps all seven multiple intelligences:
Interpersonal: finding the other four to complete the list
Logical/mathmatical: arranging the team in the proper order
Spatial/visual: arranging the team in the proper order
Musical: background music to encourage focus, creativity
Linguistic/verbal:finding the other four & arranging the team in the correct order
Intrapersonal: analyzing the proper arrangement order when the list is completed
Bodily/kinesthetic: findng the others to complete the list & correct arrangement of the list

The manner in which the excercise is presented will require the students to use all seven areas. Each segment caters to a different one of the seven. Kinestetic, music, interpersonal, intrapersonal, spacial, liguistic, and logical mathmatic. While the student may not realize all are being used, the end result will facilitate learning in all M.I. areas.

Pilar,
Yes & through this our students have another opportunity to understand & appreciate the diversity that naturally exists within groups & learn how to use this diversity for success.

Dr. Ryan Meers

I see how it can use many of the multiple intelligences but I value it for how it encourages team building, analysis, and applicability to another situation. sounds like a really great exercise, and way to recognize and manage stressful situations where students will still be expected to perform.

In my opinion, this game would bring about most if not all of the multiple intelligences, keeping in mind that not all of the seven will fall into one ideal team.there may be a mixture of 2 to 3 intelligences in one group, while another set of 5 may have all the 7.it is a very interesting concept, and

david,
This is a great observation & I think helps the students to learn how important it is for them to engage others in dialogue so they can truly get to know the other person.

Dr. Ryan Meers

This exercise incorporates:
Interpersonal- working as a team
Logical – the students are given the rules of the game and how to win the game.
Musical – music in the background
Verbal – student have to talk with each other to figure out who has what step
Kinesthetic – student have to move around to find other students to complete their group
Emotional – sounds like a fun exercise

Not very strong in the exercise that was presented is visual, intrapersonal, naturalist, and existential.
For visual the students could create signs with their step in the stress management process.
For intrapersonal – could have the students reflex individually on the experience after the exercise.
For naturalist – do the exercise outside or with all the blinds open in the room.
I’m not sure what to add for existential.

This is a very challenging exercise that requires good interpersonal communication skills. Given the fact that no one can read the minds of others, the best way to locate other participants will be to engage in topic oriented discussion.

Tina,
Yes, anytime we can help our students learn how to work together as a team & then problem solve together as a team, this is powerful.

Dr. Ryan Meers

I think the music sounds distracting and the leaner is going to become more stressed out...

The team would begin to learn about each other, and the abilities to cope with the problem at hand, and how they are able to create their team. The franctic music on the other hand may cause the students to think fast and frantic and miss the importance of learning who the team is an how they are going to work.

Daisy,
You make a great point as we need to emphasize the diversity that exists in groups & teams & talk about how we can use that to its fullest advantage.

Dr. Ryan Meers

Together all 5 student can build a team and begin to recognize each others strenghts and weaknesses. Each person can contribute and develop team building.

Students would be able to use their intrapersonal skills to do the actiities. They will be able to use all of their senses, utilizing other intelligences. Then when lining up, they will use interperonal skills.

Some with there eyes, others by playing a roll in the teaching process. Myself i like to be aware of tention as well as when i am boeing them.

Carter,
Great job of expanding on the exercise. I agree that having students think more deeply on the step they're given & incorporating it will solidify the idea even more.

Dr. Ryan Meers

While the exercise would appeal to many of the 7 multiple intelligences, I would see this more as a "team building" exercise and/or retention of the 5 steps themselves, not understanding the concepts of the 5 steps.

I might modify this by asking students to write or think about an expanded definition of the step they're given, and somehow incorporate this into the exercise.

I'm not sure how this would work for the intrapersonal or visual/spacial learning intelligence.
