ANDREA,
I think this could prove to be very helpful & valuable for you in your planning & strategy.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

I am wondering if giving a fun "quiz" on the 1st day of class that could help identify the learning styles of your students would be helpful for class planning?

The exercise makes the student work with themselves, with others, counting 10 breaths, visualizing the stress and conceptually arranging each other. Plus the music to highten their auditory learning.

Mary,
it really can help with embracing the diversity that is present in our classes.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

This will be a very helpful exercise I think in integrating my students who come from such different places.

Mohan,
yes, the diversity if an asset to any team & helps the students learn to appreciate this.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

A team is is most successful when it is of multitalented.

Interpersonal: You should be working with your other four teammates to determine the proper sequence of the stress management process and place yourselves in the correct order.

Logical: You need logic to ask the correct questions in locating the other four classmates you need to complete the exercise. You also will need logic in determining the proper order of the five steps of stress management.

Spatial/visual: You need spatial intelligence to physically place each teammate in the correct location as quickly as possible.

Musical: Music is playing in the background during the exercise.

Linguistic: You need to ask other classmates the appropriate questions to determine if they should be part of your 5-man team.

Intrapersonal: You utilize this skill when trying to figure out which way to go and the necessary questions to ask when locating your potential teammates.

Bodily Kinesthetic: You will need to physically move around the room at a quick enough pace to complete the exercise as soon as possible.

Ceola,

and the value of learning to listen to the ideas & opinions of others is also key to success in the workplace.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Input from each team member displays diversity which is unique, it incorporates different learning styles. Listening to others opinions is a great team builder. I agree this makes creating and resolving issues easy for each learner.

Bronzel,
this is true & the reflection should happen as close to the conclusion of the experience as possible. I also think it's a good idea to prep individuals for experiences so they are more in tune with learning during the experience.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

The learning occurs when people reflect on an experience, NOT during the exercise itself. While they are in the learning experiences they don't have time to notice that they are learning.

William,
it is important that we help our students embrace the diversity around them as this is key to the modern work environment.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

the strength of my students is their diversity We always can learn other ways tyo learn

Eleana,
yes, one size fits all & adults are much more aware of being treated as individuals.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

Diversity is a important point to remember when teaching adult learner.Every one is unique. So trying not to repeat certain strategies.

Joseph,
this is an excellent example of the need to understand our audience & their backgrounds, culture, etc.

Ryan Meers, Ph.D.

I teach alot overseas so usually I'm the one who brings in 'diversity'. Knowing your culture and their level of formal education is important. I made a rookie mistake once and used graphics on a board to represent an activity i was teaching them. they didn't get that those round symbols i drew on the board represented them. I had to physically place in the positions i'd tried to illustrate graphically. They were phenomenal hands on learners though.

Karen,
yes, the teamwork aspect is vitally important & our students really do need experience working in this situation.
