I believe that rather than talking/lecturing "AT" students, in a flipped classroom, the classroom becomes a laboratory for learning. It is a place where students bring their questions and inquiries and work together to refine and enhance their learning of the material.
Since teaching is a great way to reinforce learning, having students work together on homework during class time allows for them to teach and get corrections on what they learned in the prerecorded information they watched prior to the class meeting.

One of the main differences in traditional pedagogy and the flipped classroom is the increased use of digital technology. This is very familiar to the students and I believe they would appreciate this type of approach that "meets them on their terms," so to speak. The other important difference would be to have the lectures etc. at their disposal to review as often as necessary to facilitate personalized learning styles.

When students are working on in-class team projects,I've interrupted them to talk about topics they have just encountered. In a four-hour class setting, these conversational interruptions sometimes total up to a lecture-worth of information, with key words written on the whiteboard as they come up.

Even in a traditional classroom setting students can be given assisgnments prior to lectures, exp; reading assisgnment or research topic so that they may bring in topics to discuss and share during the f2f classroom lecture time. It lets an instructor know who read or planned ahead.

I think it is great that the students are taking more responsibility for their own learning. I also love the idea that students can watch the lecture over and over again.

In traditional pedagogy, the instructor has the main responsibilty of delivering knowledge and imparting understanding. In the flipped classroom, the students take a more active role in gaining knowledge and understanding concepts. The instructor's role becomes that of a guide to navigate through difficult concepts that are addressed during class.

I believe that a Flipped Classroom will allow students to become more involved in the discussions in class. Students who tend to postpone doing their homework till the day it's due will have to come prepared to class to do their in-class homework. I think this also help them stay awake in class as I am not the only one doing all the talking.

BRUCE,

Agreed. Students taking responsibility for their learning is a sign of growth on their part.

Traditional pedagogy is keeping the lectures in the classroom and the homework after hours. The flipped classroom is completely the opposite. By way of pre-recorded videos, the lectures can be heard outside the classroom and the homework and other hands-on activities are performed within the classroom. Essentially, I beleive in the flipped classroom the material comes alive. This is not always observed in the traditional setting.

The flipped classroom definitely put more responsibility on the student. The advantage of the flipped classroom model is that students can review the instructional materials multiple times.

Although I implement class participation, giving everyone attention in a large classromm is impossible. This type of teaching will allow more time with each student.

I think that in a flipped classroom, we can better teach our students to think about what they are learning instead of remembering what they are taught.

I believe that the flipped classroom requires more participation and preparation of the student. This will wean out the students that are not self starters as well as the ones that want to be spoon fed the information.
While the classic lecture format requires a significant amount of preparation on the part of the instructor, I believe that the flipped classroom format really separate the boys from the men so to speak. The instructor does not totally control the flow of the class and material. Therefore, she must be more prepared to facility the sessions to engage students and apply the prep information to appropriate scenarios.
While the actual learning component of the course is similar to the online class format, the in-class section adds another dimension. In my mind, flipping the classroom is the best of both formats combined to produce a more comprehensive learning experience.
I do believe that there is a greater level of maturity as well as personal accountability required of the student as well as the instructor to participate in a flipped classroom format.

This is extremely important, as well as the cooperation from administrators. All three need to work hand in hand and be on the same page.

A flipped classroom is more adaptable to my students' lives. I teach in a business college, where many of my students have jobs and families in addition to school. By placing lectures on-line, they are able to view them in a time that is most appropriate for them. Their learning activities can be done in a classroom setting where they do not have the distractions of work and home.

The student will benefit by being able to review the lecture portion of the assignment as many time as needed until they grasp it.This will allow more time for lab assignments in the classroom, learning by doing, Hands on learning environment. The instructor will guide and demonstrate the lab portion of the assignment.
The instructor will be able to determine if the student is able to learn in a flipped classroom environment.

It makes the student more responsible and also makes the student learn how to have a time control on assignments.

The flipped classes gives the students the opportunity to hone in on their computer skills. In addition, many of the younger students are computer literate.

I believe the students take more responsibity in their learning. Also a student who needs to review what is being taught and a slower pace they can on digitals.

With the new type of teaching and using the fact that a student can review the lecture over and over as opposed to a one time limited session in class. There should be advantages clearly seen.
