Amie,
I think you are in a great position to become an instructor of merit. You have the memories of being a student fresh in you mind as you plan your instructional strategies as a learning leader. I know you are going to have a lot of success in your classes in the years to come. I wish you well.

As a new instructor and a recent graduate myself I will find it a challenge to figure out the different learning styles of my students. I did not realize there were so many different intelligence types. While I was going to school myself and after reading this module I can put myself into a few different categories. I hope by having a better understanding it will help me reach my students better.
Glenn,
Three good elements needed for teaching and learning success.

using relevance to their chosen career path and keeping it fun and engaging is key.
Michael,
Right you are about how you can tailor your instruction when you have an understanding of the different intelligences as well as learning preferences of your students. The more you know the more accurately you can plan as well as deliver.

Understanding MI will lend to better tailored intructional delivery and content. When you have knowledge of idividual learners' MI your able to tailor even further. This is true when planning prior and when adjusting during the session.
Jordan,
Good plan and one I know will work well for you. The more variety you can introduce the more opportunities there will be for students to work within their learning preferences.

I plan to develop my course content taking into consideration the multiple learning styles of my students. Pre-testing in various types of forums will help me understand the majority of the learning skills within my class so I can teach within the most appropriate style.
Michael,
Using visual and auditory integration along with application really helps students with learning comprehension issues. Your efforts I know are of great benefit to your students that have such challenges.

Jennifer,
This is a great resource for you to have. The results of this assessment gives you a snap shot of your students and helps you to do your instructional planning from there. I know this results in more targeted instruction that benefits students.

Lecturing about the reading material, even reading passages outload, can provide enough information for the learning abilities of most students. Having something as a "show-and-tell" can reinforce the information for all.
Prior to our students starting our program they take a learning evaluation which really helps us get an understanding of how the studetns learn. I really try to teach different ways so that the different learners get what they need from the lesson.
I can't agree more. In the skill sector we must go over both theory and hands on, which means we have to incorporate almost all methods. However, I have witnessed, doing state board mock exams, for the practical part, that if I lecture, demo, then have the students perform, it helps all involved. Would love to know the names of those books.
Doug,
Once students have the opportunity to make application of what they have learned they start to develop the needed skills while also developing an appreciation for what they have been taught. This is what career growth is about.

in technical training, many students prefer to so a task performed in a demo rather that trying to read the procedure. The students who do not participate in the demo's are usually raedy to perform the task because thay already researched it. Many are confused until they actually perfrom the task and then they fully understand it. I tend to group the learning types in a multipe learning style atmosphere. Then all the learners get a good understanding as well as helping each other with information
I will test my classes on different intelligences and adapt each of my lessons to the specific results I obtain in each class. I will also utilize different methods of instruction in order to target the diverse learning preferences of each of my students.
Donna,
Right you are about learning so much about your student through observations. These observations help with the instructional planning process because you quickly see what works for their learning preferences.

I say every class is a learning experience for the instructor. After teaching a few classes, it is usually clear how the students like to learn. I teach nursing so it has to be visual/hands on experiences. I try to make them relate to the experience and then teach the theory and go into hands on as much as possible.
Also, creating learning activities that cater to all teaching methods will keep the students excited about what they are going to school to do professionally when they achieve their success in school, and beyond.
While I do not have a lot of extra time in my course/ classes (it is getting pretty full as I add various teaching approaches), I am considering introducing the idea of different styles of learning and types of intelligence to the students in the first class. This may serve to encourage those who find the traditional focus on Written and Auditory learning preferences, and Linguistic and Logical types of intelligence disorienting. It would be interesting to ask students to evaluate themselves, group them accordingly for some exercises, and see if these differences influence their outcomes. One of the schools where I teach prepares students primarily for the policy / government / think tank community. This information about learning and intelligence styles might also provide early warning for students who think they are headed for a career where their fit might be uncomfortable. It would certainly give them a running start on evaluating themselves and adapting their behavior during internships.
