Kim,
I think being creative as an instructor also helps the students to realize that they can be creative in their learning as well. This way they can see the content in different ways and make applications of it in multiple settings.

I agree. The more creative you can be in the classroom, the more your students are motivated and ready to learn. It is fun for them and helps them to recall what they have learned.
Susana,
So true. What are some of the methods you use to offer instruction in the four areas?
Gary

An effective instructor must know and use the 4 teaching methods.
knowing that each student learns in a different way will guide me in using different methods for groups of students
William,
You make a number of very good points. I agree with you about the lack of foundational academic skills in our incoming students. They are for the most part reading around the 4th to 6th grade level. This makes it tough when you are trying to teach them post secondary material. With different learning strategies and a lot of support it is great to see them progress and move closer to their career goals. Keep up the good work, you are impacting a lot of lives and helping the next generation to be successful.

WOW, where to begin! The influx of new students into the realm of a technical school ,in itself, is challenging. Given the lack of skills introduced at the K-8 and HS level (no I am NOT bashing teachers at any level just the educational system)the students are already "in the hole" to begin with. As an instructor you now have the challenge of teaching them how to study, think, retain information and be accountable.
Add to this the complexity of the information and it becomes very challenging. By targeting all the various styles, at some point you get the distinct honor of watching the light bulb come on. For me that is satisifaction in itself and well worth the effort.
First of all as an instructor I think it is important to be aware of each individual and their specific abilities. This makes instructing more dynamic but also the challenge is more fulfilling than settling for ineffective teaching.
using the four teaching method will keep the students involved
In the culinary divison students must show several "proficiencies" i.e. knife cuts, cooking methods and origins of a dish to deomonstarte they have learned on several levels.
I use several teaching methods in my classes. We have lots of hands on because most of my students are hands on types. But we use visuals like models and power points every day. I use puzzles on the content of the lectures to reinforce the concepts and use games and videos to make it fun. I feel my students are learning a lot and enjoy my classes.
DeSharn,
Good strategy to follow as you will be able to customize your instructional delivery to meet the current group of students. This will increase their engagement as well as motivation in the course.

I would use the knowledge from my day one personal assessment to determine how to plan and delivery my course content. This will help me determine which source to utilize to help my students become successful in my class.
Jacqueline,
I agree this is the way to keep students engaged while helping them to acquire the required knowledge and skills. This makes for a winning format with which everyone can be comfortable.

Gary,
Learning can be fun is structured in the way that students see the value and are interested and connected. I agree that if students are given the opportunity to apply their new technology they are better engaged.
Wanda,
Good strategy to follow as an instructional planner. You are focusing on those intelligences that will enable your students to gain the required knowledge if they are willing to put forth the needed effort.

Jetonga,
Your comments give good insight into the value of how multiple intelligences can be used to increase both engagement of students as well as their internalizing of information in a way that prepares them for their career choices.

Unfortunately, our tests are made for us and changing their format is not an option. I will discuss these points with my director. Thanks.
In planning course content and delivery I would include the use of the 3 dominant intellingences: logical/mathematical, verbal/linguistic, visual/spatial. I would get specific with my delivery if I was doing one on one tutoring, especially with a acedemically challenged student.
Hello,
By understanding the various multiple intelligences of individuals the instructor is able to tailor their instruction to play to the areas of strengths for their students. The communication between instructor and student will improve due to the instructor being able to understand how the student processes information based on their dominant intelligences. By having this understanding, an instructor will be able to craft and develop their delivery methods that will play to the strengths of the individual student, resulting in effective learning.
Thanks
Jetonga
