I have gained a lot from student feedback. Our school does periodic student surveys but I also like to do small ones of my own. I of couse love positive feedback but the negative feedback is very helpful as well. When students are unhappy with some aspect of my teaching I want to know so I can help remedy this.
Bronzel,
Right you are. If you are not excited about your subject it is for sure the students won't be.

Both the interactive feedback, while in the classroom, as well as, the periodical feedback from surveys and assessments, allows the instructor to tailor future lessons to meet the needs of the students while maintaining the course objectives
Student feedback is a major part of my teaching. Being a barber instructor the student must be able to relate his or her feeling about a subject.
It allows me to focus on their learning, and then to evaluate my teaching to see if it helping the students. If a method is not understood or engaging the students, then I can refocus my teaching strategies in order to facilitate their success. I find that students are a great resource on providing different angles to approach a topic. And, they also become more invested when they feel that their input is valued.
James,
Thank you for sharing this example of how student feedback is working for you. I know this information will be valuable for other instructors that are just starting their teaching careers.

Dr Meers,
It is important that we get feedback from our students so that we can understand them as learners. For instance I had my IT 100 students in my classroom last night and I gave them an outline of all of thier assignments for chapter 3 in the textbook and they really liked this rather then me slowly giving me the assinment instructions so they gave me some very good feedback on this and it was great.
Michael,
Student feedback is so important in relation to the reasons you list. It helps up to be honest and current in what we do as instructors and it helps students to see their input is of value.

By collecting and reviewing student feedback helps me to understand how the students are responding and understang the course. It also allow me to make any neccessary additions or omissions to the material I am covering and how I deliver it.
Jamie,
I really like your last sentence. By having this as a goal you then can build your instructional delivery around content selection and presentation.

I agree, Damien. I find I need to be cautious about not assuming what has worked before will work again with a different group of students.
Student feedback will keep me honest. Listening to the students will help me fine tune my delivery to better meet their needs. My purpose is their success.
