Hi I think that student retention envolves 3 areas.First the instructor who spends the most time with his/her students. The instructor can sometimes intutively sense when something is going on with a particular student.I try get to know something about him/her and encourage that student to stay the course. Also the financial aide department needs to make themselves more approachable and available to the students.Last
a student needs positive family support or support from a close friend in order for a student to stay in the institution.
Well, largely it is going to be revealed unambiguously as being the responsibility of some part of the institutions various levels of executive management, whether it be the campus president, program chair, department chair, or the instructor. Ultimately, student retention and support starts from the top down. Administration provides academic support to ensure retention of students so that they succeed in their academic endeavors.
Hi James,
You have it! Everyone plays a role in retention, but instructors really do play the biggest role in retention because of our constant contact with the students. Retention is a battle that has to be dealt with every day.

One of the biggest players in student retention is the teacher / instructor. They have more contact with the student than any one else. Not to down play the importance of the rolls played by support staff. The instructor in most cases can pick up on issues that the student may be having in class and sometimes outside of the classroom if the student feels they can be open with the instructor. This can be very beneficial to student retention if the instructor or some one in supporting staff rolls can help before the student gives up.
Hi Salvatore,
I concur! Instructors are really the biggest saving grace to students, although everyone employee plays a role.

Hi Yonne,
I love your encouraging words. Continue to motivate your students. We really have to be our students biggest cheerleaders.

I do believe when a student here encouraging comments from the instructor, this increases retention. I alway let my students know that their job is to become successful and I am here to help them get to that point. That seem to motivate them to move towards that goal.
While everyone who comes in contact with the student is an important part of retention. Once the student is sold on coming to an institution the more positive interactions they have the more likely they are to stay around. That having been said since the instructor spend the most time with the student and is the one delivering the content that the student came for. It seems to me that the instructor will have the greatest impact on retention and may in some cases make up for deficiencies in other areas.
Hi Melanie,
Students really like the break just from plain old lecture. Students want to and need to hear about our experiences as they apply to the content. I have witnessed role playing to be an effective learning tool as well.

I agree 100%. The students in my class really enjoy it when I share some of my past exreiences as a nurse with them. They really like it when I "role play" when teaching them about specific disorders seen in the mental health field.
Hi Andrea,
You have it! All employees are important to the success of the student. The more students know up front, the likely they are to remain in school.

I believe there are multiple key players that are essential to a student’s continued success throughout a program. First, the admission process should ensure that the right students are admitted into the program. Secondly, the student should be well informed about the program they have chosen, to ensure that the right decision is being made and that they are a right fit. Thirdly, faculty should encourage, inform, and teach the students the proper skills needed to be successful. Lastly, it is the student’s responsibility to work hard to maintain and complete the program. I believe that if students are made aware of duties, requirements and challenges they will face beforehand, students may be a little more focused, dedicated and determined to complete each portion of the program which will decrease the retention rate.
Hi Jae,
Everyone certainly has a role when it comes to working retention. Everyone is responsible for help with retaining students. Students must be held accountable as well.

Many times people say the instructor, but I believe that each and every person who works on campus is key in keeping student enrolled throughout their program. If one department is aware of a challenge a student is having and communicates that to individuals in other departments, someone may be able to assist. The student is also a key player in staying enrolled throughout the program, since it is through their communication and follow through after being assisted by campus staff that they can often overcome what appear to be obstacles.
Hi Kelly,
I concur! The instructors have more contacts with students than any other personnel.

Hi James,
We have to help our students solve their personal problems as well as their professional concerns. Our students only know one way when things get tough and that is to quit. We have to help our students keep their eyes on their prize.

A lot goes on in a student life while there in school.Finacal aid is important. student service is important. housing, food, getting to school these all play an import part, if one of these things go wrong a student can drop out of school.
the instructor is the first and in most cases the last point of contact with the student. If a student has problems he or she will most likly talk to their instrutor of the coarse there in or maybe a past instrutor that they fell comfortable with. The istructor will play the key role in the students future
Hi James,
Instructors certainly play a vital role in the student's education. We as instructors truly have time invested in our students, therefore we typically know our students better than any other personnel.
Patricia Scales
the key players are instructers they spend more time with the stuudent while they are in school then the students piers who they talk to alot and thier families to help support them
