Customer service is partially defined as delivering a goal or goods to a customer. I do believe that. But when it comes to education an Instructor must be forever vigilant that they are shaping and molding a person's life or views on life. The customer or student is relying on updated information, the truth and be allowed to agree or disagree with the topic at hand.Being and educational customer,at times, is not so clear cut as you pay me and I give you information. You are impacting that person's life for the rest of their lives. They will take pieces of what they feel are most important and carry that with them through out their careers orthe remainder of their lives.... Mitchell Becker

Hi Kimberly,
I understand! Some students are very hard to motivate. Continue to motivate others and make a difference to those who really want to do better and hopefully the uncaring ones will jump on the band wagon.

It is our responsibility to set the example but it also their responsibility as the student to put forth an effort. We are teaching them how to do a job and we have the experience to back that up, but sometimes you have students who are there but really don't want to learn. It makes it tough, especially when you do all you can do.

Hi Don,
Absolutely! It is the student's responsibility to put effort into their entire learning experience.

Patricia Scales

It is important to give a 100 %, but the student must put effort toward the class.

Hi Thomas,
As long as you help your students, and they know you are there for them, things will happen positively!

Patricia Scales

at my school corporate does not see the student as the real customer. The instustry what we are training the students for is viewed as the customer. the students are the product. student experience is important but the student is not always right. we offer them a lot they just have to take advantage of it and they will get all the help they need.

Hi David,
Students can certainly help or hurt your reputation. It is good when students help build your reputation. It lets you know that you are doing your job as an instructor.

Patricia Scales

They are my customers, and when i here them tell other students that they got friends that are signing up for the courses it tells me that as an instructor i am doing my job.

It is important to remember that as teachers we are employed by a corporation which is for profit. As such the students are the customer and we are selling them their education. We are the students connection to their future and we have a product to sell them. That product is the knowledge and expertise to move on to the next level and be a productive member of society and enjoy the career they have chosen.

From an instructor's point of view, the student is the reason for the instructor to be there. However this also means that the "client" is not well served if the instructor does not behave as such. Although the student is the client, the client is not allways right. The student's needs are best served with a disciplined and organized classroom environment.

Hi Rebecca,
If students are happy in their school environment they are more likely to have better attendance.

Patricia Scales

What if we look at our students as clients? We would not want a client to be unhappy with our “service.” We would want them to “keep coming back” because we gave them what they were looking for. If we understand our students and what their needs are, and we can help them achieve their needs, they will be greatly pleased and much more willing to work with us.

Hi Robert,
You are right! Students are the reasons we have jobs!! We need to give them impeccable customer service.

Patricia Scales

As an instructor, we have to show the students the value of their education. The pay for school and we are the onse providing the service of the education they are looking for. Without the customer, we have no jobs.

Hi Kevin,
I concur! Students are important to us, but they are students and should be held accountable and earn their education. They have to understand, their education is not going to be given to them, but we will do all we can to help them succeed.

Patricia Scales

When students are thought of as customers they feel that they are in some way not earning an education and the educational process may be diluted and their education becomes secondary, with customer services being primary.
We need to understand the needs of our student and provide the appropriate services for them.

Hi Regan,
Generation Y can be a challenge, but as educators we must hold this generation to high regards as well and give them what they earn. Generation Y has to realize nothing is going to be given to them; hey must work for their education.

Patricia Scales

I agree, especially if the are paying more than most for their education. I teach at a proprietary school and the tuition is much more than other area schools for the same outcome, but our program is accelerated and is highly ranked, but the students are aware of the cost difference and I feel they expect a degree vs. earning it. It has gotten worse with gen Y, they want handouts by nature, but expect them because they are paying so much.

Hi Donnalyn,
Nicely stated! We have to do all we can to help our students succeed personally and professionally.
