Student Empowerment for Learning Success --> Student Empowerment Profiled

Post what you've learned about this topic and how you intend to apply it. Feel free to post questions and comments too.

The more real life scenarios the student get the more they will be prepard fo rthe real world.

I have found that the first thing an instructor needs to do is to convince the student that they are capable of doing this

Students have to take responsibility for their own learning. I know we use a blended learning curriculum, which makes students learn on their own time and then apply it in the classroom/clinical setting. We set them up for the learning by providing the necessary information to them, but they have to own it and take responsibility to actually learn the material.

This course has been enlightening in one particular way for me. I plan on developing a system of reward for learning and understanding the material. As it's said in the presentation, each institution needs to discovery what pathway to student ownership and involvement work for them. I believe my students will be more empower and embolden to take a more productive stance in their own development if they stand to gain something in more immediate terms.

My enthusiasm for my craft is evident to my students.  I try to make sure I realate evevything we do to its application in the Job world.  I try, but will try to do even better in making our lessons relevent to employment.  The "Why"...not just the "How".   I also could do better in encouraging the importance failure in the education process.  Practice and building good techniqwue comes from allowoing yourself to fail once in awhile.

I've learned that the students must feel they are invested in their learning. I'ts not just a course to score a great grade but to enhance their overall value.

Incorporating real life experiences into curriculum is an effective means to engage students. Encouraging students to take an active part.  Students who n their progress and success vs blaming others for failures have a much more productive experience in the classroom.  This way of thinking should be developed and encouraged.

This section helped reinforce my teaching direction of using real world examples and instructions to help engage and motivate my students.

Understanding the student mindset and applying correct teaching techniques can further the progress and understnding of the learning at hand.

We are always learning and forever evloving in education.

Always learning in education....

Students that are not engaged is the subject matter will not fare well. It's my job as an educator to get and keep them "motivated." Hands on assignments weaved into lecture and written work seems to fair quite well for me.

I've learned that the students have to take responsibiity for their learning, which is also the comment of the student, the instructors have loads of experience and knowledge to share.

Taking ownership builds excitement. It also empowers the student to invest whole heartdly in the learning process to achieve an educational process and ROI.

Inspiring students to invest in their own education and ownership will require a more student-centered approach in the classroom.

This segment was a reminder of how important real life and prior knowledge ties into student learning.  Working with older teens, I focus on career exploration, many of whom want to share what they know from real life in the classroom.  It is important to listen to what they share and use that to further the conversation, curriculum, and engagement.

Student must learn to encourage themselves and keep a postive attitude and know that they can meet the challenge to continue to learn and be successful.

Helping students to be accontable and responsible will help them keep a positive outlook in knowing the importance of education.

Student should take responsibility for their learning. Help them to engage in learning that imitate the real-life situations. They should know that their education is a serious investment that cannot be taken from them once they earned that degree.
