I find that the biggest stressor for me is conflict with coworkers. As instructors we are often held to the highest standards, meanwhile other employees seem to be allowed to relax those standards. feeling like I am held to the highest standard is very stressful. I understand that everyone has a job to do, and that as individuals everyone feels their job is the most important, whether it is or not. I will try to listen to their requests from their standpoint, but address it as best I can without feeling that stress.
Yes, you really have to identify which people take the most priority and go from there.
My biggest stressor is trying to be too many things to to many people1 I need to reflect and make some changes!
It's so important to devote a little time to yourself Robert. So often, instructors don't make this a priority. They should.
Very good question. Personally I try to set time aside during the week to do something that I enjoy. Both my wife and I work and have two children. We are lucky enough to have schedule that are flexible compared to other type of jobs and we manage to support each other and be there for our kids. But we also understand that we enjoy certain activities and we give ourself time for them.
My main cause of stress is probably teaching students, that come here with a poor set of learning skills.
That's a huge challenge for many instructors Chuck - particularly the part about not letting it get to you. I can sympathize.
My number one stressor? Management! How do I cope with it, not let their consistant inconsistancies bug me.
This sounds very stressful Steve. Enforcing school rules can sometimes put instructors in a difficult position.
That's good. At first, standing in front of a class can be very intimidating. After a while, you get used to playing that role and it gets easier.
my number one stress factor is constantly enforceing the school's keys to success. i feel that i am the only one on board to see the students follow the rules. my second stress is keeping the training aids up and running. the remedy for both of these would require all the instructors to do their job.
What a great outlook and approach Timothy! We could all learn a thing or two from your method.
the big stressor for me has been in front of class, but it is getting alot better
I dont feel i have stress.I come to work.I do my job,I am always in a good mood,If you consider venting stress,Welcome to life.A solution to stress is dont worry, be happy.
A major cause of stress would be in lab for the students. Training aids in need of repair, as a team all persons need to keep on top of keeping them in top condtion. Also getting information across to the students that are a bit more challanged than other. One on one is helpful on this situtation.
Going to school and working full time has been my number one stress. I have learned to keep a time management book and list everything which has allowed me to be less stressed. This also keeps me from missing appointments or from making appointments on top of appointments.
the greatest stress is that i cannot schedule anything beyond 3 weeks at a time, due to the lack of assignment consistency by management.
I have had to learn to plan no more than 3 weeks ahead once my schedule is set.
Yes, these are common stressors for instructors Salvatore. Sometimes it's good to trust the system. Other times it's important to think critically about what works best for our students.
Administration is one of my stressors. There is sometimes inconsistency in the application of rules, for instance I have had students in the past who did not meet the standard with there hair cut and did not want to cut it. So they can get an accommodation for cultural or religious reasons, witch I get but if it wasn’t a cultural concern when they started and got a hair cut to start school then how is it ten or fifteen weeks later when they meet me. A second example of rule confusion for me is the recent change in the way student services communicates with students using text messaging this is a great tool but blurs the line as to what is an acceptable use of there phone and what is unacceptable, arming the student with another exception to the rule. I thing I need to accept what the gravity of these things mean in terms of education of the student and my ability to do my job and trust that in the long run the system works, because from my experience the system does work quite well most of the time
.
Administration is by far my biggest stressor. Our administration does not communicate very effectivly and they change policy in the middle of the stream, sometimes for the good but this is because some of the management types hired have not grown up in our culture or even had experience in a school system. It takes time for them to adapte, this can cause stress. I have learned to adapte by doing the best job I can possibly do, especially for the students and that's all I can do, every thing will eventually fall into place.
