My key word for the future is balance. The plan is to deliberately pay attention to my health which inclues my diet, regular exercise and mental stimulation and relaxation. I believe that if those things are in a healthy balance, my coping skills with stressors will be stronger.
One way of coping with stress is to seperate work from home. I try to forget about work when i leave to avoid putting stress on other people in my life.
Yes, it's so important to take a step back and look at the big picture Mervin. So many instructors forget to do this and can get lost in the day to day minutia of life.
Fishing is a great way to relax and bring something home to the family too Matthew!
When I get stressed I like to go fishing. It gives me the opportunity to escape to the quiet solice of nature and relax for a time.
I think that we do not take time to just do things for ourselves. Time off just to give our mind and emotions a rest. Most times we feel presure to stay working when we should just stop and look at the goal and the big picture.
I find that walking the dog is a good way to disengage and get some exercise.
Yes, this is true Eric. While establishing a good system is a time investment, it can have great rewards. When a good system is in place, we can focus on getting the work done and are often more productive.
Moderation is absolutely essential because anything can become too much. Finding ways to balance work schedules with home life and other activities can be difficult but when you do get a system down it feels like a weight has been lifted.
I already enjoy exercising to reduce stress but I want to try Yoga. I already know I carry a lot of stress and tension in my neck and back so Yoga might be something good for me to try.
Yes, finding a quiet place where you can step away can make all the difference in your productivity Dee Dee.
I've been making an effort to set aside some time either outside of school or on an evening or weekend. There are a lot of distractions when working in the office, and I am frequently pulled in various directions. This is fine, but I need a little time to pull my thoughts together and just hunker down and focus. I'll go to the library or Borders, pull out my class materials, and do my prepwork. I get 3x as much accomplished during that time than I could ever get completed while at school
Yes, 15 minutes a day can make such a huge difference Sean - not just on your stress level but on your outlook too!
Glad to hear William, planning is such an important piece. We've got to look ahead and think carefully to make sure we're going to have a good future.
At the risk of sounding cliche, if all it takes is 15 minutes of physical activity a day to help reduce stress that's the route I'm gonna take. For anyone who says they can't spare 15 minutes, they need to work on their time management!
To cope, I exercise regularly and I also work on good plans to eliminate and reduce stress. this works well for me.
Excellent, sounds like a plan Nancy. Go ahead and start small, then work your way up. It's ok to be reasonable with yourself and what you have time for.
I will exercise more and also try not internalize things so much.
That sounds really stressful Ralph - particularly about having only 6 hours to eat, sleep and enjoy your family. Sounds like you really need the weekends to recharge.
Sounds like a great strategy Tami. Yoga is wonderful. I can't emphasize that enough. It not only reduces stress but really helps with back problems too.
