Hello Robert,
It is amazing the type of attention you get from students when you mention $$$$$.

Hi Jennifer,
We must put everything in plain terms for our students so that there is not any misunderstanding. Students need and must have deadlines. For most of our students, we have to hold their feet to the fire.

This is a hard one. I really try to express how important each assignment is and why they need to learn it. There are two reasons.

1. As a graduate of this college, we are insuring all you would be employers that you have a base set of skills. This assignment helps establish that base.

2. Knowing this information will make you money in the long run.

After I expail number two, they are all ears.

I make course requirements clear by wording them in a manner that relates to the student learner. I also apply specific deadlines for all assignments.

Hi John,

We have to set high standards and expectations for our students. If we raise the bar, students will raise to the bar. You get from students what you expect.

Hello Christina,
Using a very calm demeanor with students work. Whenever students are put at ease the nervousness decreases.

I provide what I title "expections" and in it I tell them not only what I the school wants, but what I require. I also explain to them the reason why, and finally, I say, "Your in college and adults" and so on.

Hi Klaus,
You will determine if they understand what is required when it is time for them to perform. You're right, some students say they understand when in essence they don't.

Hi Everyone: My first class usually focuses on the requirements of the class. I believe if my students understand my requirements, then they can focus on what is important, the class content. I try to put them at ease but explaining things and showing examples. I find that this works effectively.

I use a course syllabus as well and spend some time going through each day of the 24 days I have them. How do I know if they understand what is required because when I ask they say they do.

Hi Brandon,
It is important to make sure the students have a full understading of their requirements.
Patricia

i use a course syllabus and go through everything with the students the first day of class and make sure they all understand what is required.

Hi Mohan,
I've had instructors to tell me I am too reminding, but I want my students to succeed. I see you remind your students throughout as well.
Patricia

Give a brief explanation of the topics that will be covered both in the class and in the lab and the expected grades to be achieved on the first day of the class itself. They are remainded of this again and again at the time of each assignment.
