Hi Richard,
I see nothing but positives by sharing an example with students. Some students are not abstract at all, and by seeing an example it helps them tremendously to see the end result.
Patricia
So the student will have a good understanding of what they should expect from the course and also what is expected from them.
Examples provide a visual representation of a completed project, or let's them see the "finished product." Examples work well also if the students can see examples of what you consider "A" work versus what you consider "C" work. Sometimes students struggle with formatting or style issues, and providing examples can also help with that. Lastly, letting students see examples can remove some of the fear or anxiety a student may have of whether they can do the work required.
It is very helpful to show your students samples of the work they will be doing. This serves as a model for students. They see the finished product and how it should be done.
I always show my students samples of other students polished projects so they have something concrete to base their own projecs on. It helps the students who are not creative to develop and incorporate their own ideas into their work.
Hi Marie,
Guidelines are extremely helpful. Students confidence levels are higher whenever they have guidelines.
Patricia
It can give them a guideline, comparison so that they stay on topic.
A guideline is always in need especially when you are an adult student you want to be sure of your course requierement
Once the student is motivated and excited we know we will have a great outcome
once the student see the goals they are more positive in accomplishing their work
Giving examples makes the student know what quality of work is expected
To serve as a guideline for instructors expectations and course requirments.
Hi Marie,
Students really do gain a great sense of excitement and motivation whenever they can see an axample.
Patricia
As they see the finish product, the excitment of being able to acomplish that make them proud
Hi Marie,
Students really do get a great sense of motivation and excitement whenever they can see the finished product of what they are about to start.
Patricia
Student will be more interested and excited to be able to see this is what I'm going to accomplish .there is more expectation
Hi patricia
When a student see the type of work they will be doing , it opened up the interest and help them in wanting to participate
As the students see the examples it will open up they interest and make them wanting to participate
Hi Gregory,
With rubrics there is not much room for questioning. Everything is spelled out in black and white. Rubrics make for a smooth grading period.
Patricia
Hi Catharine,
I agree! Visual is a sure way to a better understanding.
Patricia
I love rubrics too. I first fell in love with them teaching Language Arts: Writing for the GED. Steck-Vaugn's Rubric is so good I use it as a basis for grading student essays elsewhere. Also, students know exactly what's expected, especially if we review essays of different caliber and what makes them good or not. Our rubrics must make real-world sense for them to be effective (esp. in a business-college environment.
