So the student is aware of what is expected of them during the course of study. Examples have more of a meaning than just a written explanation as to what is expected. If a student has an idea of what is expected he/she will relate better with a prior example.

Hi Chanelle,
Students like knowing and need to know exactly what is expected of them so that they can strive to do their very best.

Because it gives them a sense of what to expect, therefore they can prepare accordingly.

Hi Janice,
You are on point! Students have a better understanding once being shown an example.

Hi Ginny,
I have used this same approach for years, and it has proven to be very effective. Students are a lot clearer as to what is expected of them when examples are shared.

I have shown examples of the project or homework assignments from previous terms which I have taught the same class. This will let the students know a little bit about the assignment prior to the assignment being assigned and it shows them exactly what I am looking for. I typically will show a wonderful example and then an example needing more. Names are hidden, so nobody should feel offended or embarrased. I have had good luck with this approach.

Hi andrea,
I also like to show students different grade levels of assignments, such as "A", "B", "C", "D", and "F" work so that they are no surprises.
Patricia

I agree to providing examples for students to see what is expected of them. Doing this, allows them to do better or to generate appropriate questions toward the subject are.

it is important to show students how to do an assignment correctly and an example of an assignment incorrectly done. this will elliminate any confusion to the students on how to complete the given assignment.

Hi Kerry,
Most students understand better if they can see it, instead of us just telling them.
Patricia

Showing examples of the work they will be doing will result in a broader understanding of their newly-chosen career path. Regarding the upcoming course, it will detail the goals and objectives of the course and allow the students a chance to "see" the work they will be doing as sometimes hearing it is not enough.

It provides them with a general idea of what is expected, I have done this many times with no complaints.

Hi Marcia,
Visuals add great clarity for students.
Patricia

Examples are models of what is expected in the course. It is a visual of the requirements that are listed in the syllabus.

It makes the students a little bit more comfortable about taking the exams in the future

yes thanks....
and once they learn a new technique they love showing the procedure to others
i use this as a means of retraining and re-enforcing already studied material ...and give students credit relative to the completeness and accuracy of their demonstration.

So they can see it to help with full comprehension, I like to read the text, then put my hands on it...and students benefit to, I like to tell, show, do

Hi Anand,
I concur! Students are more eager to begin a project/assignment and less nervous about beginning the project/assignment after being shown an example.
Patricia

reduces their precourse stress and increases, motivation & participation

Hi Janice,
I concur! Students need as much guidance as possible, and most students truly appreciate being shown an example. Visual adds great clarity.
