So that the student believes that you care. Also to allow the student to feel that they are a part of the group.

Having interaction with every student in the class is an easy way for me to gain important information about how my students are doing in the class. Is everyone understanding me? Are students actively participating in the learning modules? Are students developing skills? These are just some of the questions that can be answered by interacting with all students in the class. Effective interaction with students is a type of formative assessment that can help both the instructor and the student adjust behaviors along the way so that the student stays on track toward achieving the expected learning outcomes.

Hi Robbi,
Absolutely! We need to let our students know that we are there for them. We want to help them succeed.

Hi Kimberly,
You are right! As instructors we should do our due diligence to build a professional relationship with all students. If students trust you, they will work hard for you because they do not want to disappoint you.

Each and every student needs the interaction to get them closer to reaching their career goals. They need to know that you are there to help and answer but also effectively manage the classroom and see that every student is given the chance to suceed.

Interaction with each student is important for several reasons. By interacting with students you will develop a rapport with them, I believe this is important, because when they are having problems they will come to you. They need someone they can trust. When I taught in the military this was very important. It's alot of stress for some and if they have someone they can come to for help,it makes it easier on them.

Hi Aimi,
Absolutely! Every student is important and should be made to feel like they are important.

You need to have interaction with every student because it is imperitive to build a rapport with each individual student, also helps to build trust and confidence in the instructor.

The importance of interaction with students to ensure that they feel a part of the "club" is understood. I find that I must remember my role as instructor is far more important than my tendency to parent or befriend the students.

It's important to keep students engaged with the class, the material and with their goals. We can do that by maintaining interaction with them on a regular basis.

By interacting with students you may discover what motivates or demotivates them. You may uncover a special topic or interest that will generate a spark as it relates to their career path. In the long term, you may even be able to add this individual to a professional network and watch them develop beyond graduation. A PAYDAY!

Interaction with students helps promote the successful student and successful class(room) in many ways. Student interaction builds rapport which creates a great environment for teaching and learning and also helps set the tone for career development.

First, interaction allows the teacher to build student rapport which in turn can lead to the elimination of many classroom issues before they can start. The instructor can gain the trust and respect of the students, and this can translate into the teacher's ability to engage the students and foster a mutual respect which encourages learning.

Secondly, the students see the instructor as a role model. When the teacher engages and interacts with every student, they see a great example of how to develop interpersonal skills and communication which are necessary professional tools.

Third, as teachers promote interaction with every student, a relationship will hopefully develop which will allow students to approach the instructor if problems arise and allow for swift resolutions.

Lastly, the effort to develop interaction with every student can foster the confidence in students to encourage their success througout the curriculum. The instructor can be a motivating factor beyond her own classroom.

Hi Davina,
I agree! A simple smile, hello, How are you?, etc. go a long way. All students are important, and they should be made to feel as such.

I have found every nstudent wants some "me" time. Where they are getting the instructors full attention. Interaction with all individually seems to give them a self of pride. It also shows that respect is there.

It is important to interact with every student to ensure that all students are acknowledged and that they count. So many times, especially in a large class, the students feel invisible. I have felt this as well in classes where there are more than 25 students. I am very quiet by nature, I don't often grab the attention of the instructor. Many students fall into this category. When I notice that I have a student with this personality, I make an effort to talk with the student during breaks so that I connect with the student. I find that just something as simple as saying hello to them by their name, helps them to connect with me. I often get the response "I didn't know you knew my name." That gives me the opportunity to reinforce with the student that they are not invisble and that they count. Most students seem pleasantly surprised.

Hi Robert,
Absolutely! Each student should matter to us, and we need to show them daily that they do matter.

Hi Allen,
That's right! We have aggressive students and passive students. Do not let the aggressive students consume all of your time. We should give all students attention, even the not so demanding ones.

Patricia Scales

I remember how it felt as a student to feel anonymous in class. I withdrew and thought that since I didn't seem to exist that my performance didn't matter. I will never let that happen in my class. By showing each student personal attention they will see that they count. It can be about class or personal issues. The point is that they know that I am approachable and caring.

Interaction with every student provides you the opportunity to get the know the student; who they are, what they are about and how well they learn. It reveals more information than the student may be willing to give on a voluntary basis. It also gives me the chance to make changes to the syllabus or assignment work load based on each students' abilities or lack there of.

every student needs to feel as though they are a part of the learning experience. Some students will demand our attention and others will avoid it, but it is our job to incorporate the entire classroom into the learning experience.
