You want to approachable so the student s would feel comfortable asking for help if needed or asking questions.

The primary lectures and demonstrations present the material, but it is the one-to-one contact with each student that provides the best feedback to determine how much of the information is getting through. But it is also the best way to create a feeling of being part of the class and that their individual performance is valued and important.

Hi Eric,
Rapport building is important, and when students have a rapport with you they are more likely to open up to you.

Interacting with each student reminds them that I am there for them, that I have an interest in their education, and that I am not the boogey man out to get them. It helps establish a rapport so potential trouble students will be less likely to break my trust. It helps me identify traits in my students that I may need to watch further, such as a student who has issues at home who may become an "angry student." It may also help shy, quiet students feel more willing to speak in class.

Interaction with each student is important for several reasons. By interacting with students you will develop a rapport with them, which is extremely important for a instructor. Once a rapport is developed the student feels like they are more than just another student to come through the doors. I have found that once I have developed a rapport with a student they feel more comfortable, and are more open and willing to learn.

Having interaction with a student helps remove the "us versus them" attitude, particularly among the younger students. They feel more like you are there to help them succeed rather than make life difficult for them. Often students see and want the relationship between the teacher and the more personable students, but they're not sure how to achieve that relationship. That's why it's important for the teacher to make the overtures.

Teacher student interaction is important to show the student that you actually care about their success.

Hi LaTunija,
I make it a point to interact with my students as soon as possible due to trying to build a professional rapport with them. It is good to get to know your students professionally. They will work hard to try to please you.

You want to gain that respect and relationship with the students. In my case I never interact with the student until their last 5 weeks of class so it's my duty to make sure that I do interact face to face with the students. Like it stated in this course it's best to learn students name. Interaction is the key whether it's with the student or even the faculty.

Hi Dr. Lindsay,
I agree! All students matter, and they should be made to feel very important. Treat all students the same to avoid problems.

Hi Carmen,
Absolutley! Every student is important, and we should make it a point to interact with each of them daily; if it is nothing more than a simple greeting.

Patricia Scales

You should interact with every student so that they feel that they are a part of the group and buy into the course material. When they feel a part of the group they will contribute to the discussion and the over all success of the class. The students will learn more when they feel comfortable and contribute, this also involves them in opinions of others giving them greater understanding of the subject matter.

It is important to interact with each student, so each one of them feels important and knows that you are aware of their presence. Students need to know that they are just as important as every other person in the class. Otherwise some students may feel as though you have favorites and that may make them feel like you are treating them unfairly.

Hi Harry,
That's right! All students matter, and we should make them feel as such.

Hi William,
Nicely stated! Rapport building is very important at the collegian level.

Hi Bill,
In an online evironment it is different interacting with students because you do not get that important face-to-face interaction. Online instructors try to build rapport with students via email, by stating their name as the greeting line before actually composing the email. Send a welcome note personally to each student, and they try to personalize emails when possible instead of sending out a blanket email.

HI Dawn,
I agree! Make it a point to build a relationship with ALL students so that no one feels left out.

Interacting with students in a professional manner affords me the opportunity to make every student feel as though they are part of the team. The demographics are so diverse that each day is a challenge, each student needs to know they are important, not only as a team member but as an individual helping their self esteem.

Relationship is a vital part of the teaching/learning dynamic. Students whom you regularly interact with, will be more attentive, less troublesome, more engaged, and will succeed more often and at a higher level. I make sure to learn, and use, student's first names within the first two weeks of class. This familiarity seems to help the relationship building process provided that they still understand we are not their social peers or friends but benevolent leaders.

Each student is in the class to hopefully learn and succeed in the class. Interacting with each students shows that as an instructor I truly care about their ability to learn and gain success not only in my class, but also in their chosen career. It gives me feedback about any possible adjustments I may need to make to the presentation of the material. Interacting will also allow me to evaluate whether a student understands the materials and skills taught. It allows me to render extra help to those students that may have a difficult time understanding the material or gaining proficiency at a certain skill. In addition, it may present itself that I may need to present the material in a different manner, as each student has a different learning style. Interaction by using their name gives the student the feeling that they are valued and their contributions to class are recognized.
