You need to show confidence about the subject you are teaching. The confidence you express should not be misinterpreted as being arrogant.

Be confident in what you are teaching, you are a professional. Explain to students what you have done in the past to build confidence in you and your students.

Hi Dennis,
You understand when it comes to projecting a positive image. We are our students role models, and we need to display professionalism in all areas.

An instructor should always make an effort to be prepared for class as a way of maintaining a positive image. The instrucvtor should also attempt to be honest and fair with students at all times and not show favorities. Personal professsional appearance is also important in maintaining a positive image.

Hi Anthony,
If we hold our students to standards, our standards should be even higher. We must lead by example.

KarrieAnn,
I agree with you regarding your post. Dressing the part makes an impact. I have notice that since I have been teaching some of my students have embraced the professional dress code that I have brought to the class. It lets me know that I am sending the right message to the students and that they appreciated the professional dress code.

Regards,

Anthony Allen

Have a positive attitude. Use current events in your class discussions. Pull from current experience in real world work experience to reflect the topics in the classroom. Be professionally dressed and respect the students as you would have them respect you.

State some of your experience in the area. I use stories of past clinical experiences, both good and bad. I want the students to understand that not every day is wonderful, but that many are. When i don't know something, I acknowledge that and say let's look it up. If I cannot immediately answer the question, I make a point of writing it down and following up with the student or the class.

First day you need to look professional. Press your uniform if needed, get there early to set up the classroom, and start on time.

As an instructor you must show confidence in yourself and the knowledge you have in your subject area. Students pick up on a non-confident instructor quickly. We are human and do make mistakes but we should learn from those mistakes and not allow that to discourage us from continuing on with our endeavor.

Hi Allen,
It sounds like you do a fine job of leading by example. Our students need as many role models in their lives as possible. We must continue to be the professional that we want our students to become.

First, I like to dress professionally. I don't necessarily wear a tie for every class, but I do dress for the occasion. I smile often, make self-effacing jokes when I goof, and I try to learn all of the students names by week three. Further, I teach literature, so I like to keep my classroom light and engaging because we often deal with complex issues--themes, motifs, motivations, etc.

I create a positive instructor immage from day one as we wear uniforms I am never out of a freshly washed and pressed uniform setting the highest of standards for my students, they do follow my lead as I have less issues than other instructors. It is a simple step but sets them straight about my expectations.

I agree, as an instructor when you hear a student making negative comments about another instructor you should always step in and defend your fellow instructors because when you work as a team you will succeed as a team.

Hi Nikita,
You have it! You must practice what you preach!

Your professional image in the classroom as well as outside the classroom should be positive. Students are apart of the public eye and they mimic what they see. How would it look if you are preaching professionalism and misbehaving when you dismiss class?

I agree. My best remembered teachers were excited about what they taught and that excitement spread to me and the other students. It helps to love what you do and that makes excitement easy to display.

Hi Amalia,
You have it! We should always have a high level of professionalism as well.

Patricia Scales

been positive, ready, and prepared for the students.
