Kathryn,
Good point! Just think of what could be missed if not on top of the medical field. Just recently PAPs went to every three years.

I encourage students to realize that in nursing, learning is ongoing if they want to stay proficient in their field. They will need to continue to study and stay up-to-date in their chosen field to be a truly successful and competent nurse.
Lisa,
I love resources. We truly do not know what we do not know until someone shares a resource or knowledge with us!

Jennifer,
Knowing the different policies in other states is a really good idea. You never know when you might move!

I try to expose students to a variety of educational sources outside of the classroom. Providing information on upcoming seminars related to the field can be one way to expose and encourage students to continue their education beyond the classroom. Giving assignments that require completion of online classes that relate to the course makes students aware of the many education opportunities available to them.
In the massage therapy field, there are new laws the the differnt levels (state, city, etc) that the students will need to keep up with their practice when they are licensed. Any changes to the state medical boards with the licensure, the students need to be aware of these, so they are not risking their lisensure. Also, the students can learn from other therapists on applying techniques to a client to enhance their session.
francisco,
Good example! Technology is simply everywhere and we need to keep up or we will be lost.
Shelly Crider
Marife,
Remind them to have an open mind!

Automotive class/courses can be very intimidating. They are intimidating just like other fields of experise and widely used in so many areas now,The amount of technical information that had not been used before. It is very vital In this day and time to become computer literate because this applies to our field wich is related to aoutomotive and diesel industries..
I do the same. I stress to the students that I love to learn something new everyday. If not whats worth living. Stimulating thier minds and finding out that thier is always something new to learn in the health care field. And to accept it as a challenge.
Jennifer,
Exactly...just in the last few years technology has changed!
Shelly Crider
Rey,
Oh so true! We can learn a lot from a book, but when someone throws in an experience or their perspective....a whole new view could appear!
Shelly Crider
Use examples to show how much things have changed should help motivate students to want to keep up with the new knowledge.
Exactly. I stress to the students that I am always learning--- that sometimes they teach me things about a subject due to their unique perspective.
Pandora,
Critical thinking skills are so important in the work place. Many students do not have this skill. Thank you for including this in your class.
Shelly Crider
rafael,
Good point. Many students do not know what to do to keep up on the license. I like how you guide them through this process.
Shelly Crider
Roy,
Open ended questions are a great way to have an open mind from students!!
Shelly Crider
Miriam,
I like this! There are so many times that I have run into students who have no clue how to do a research paper, how to get started, how to cite, anything about the research process.....good job!
Shelly Crider
Stan,
It is a lifestyle enrichment process. There is so much for people to learn. There are courses to keep us up on technology as well as to learn to basket weave!!

What strategies I am using to help the students become lifelong learner. I instill in them the most important thing is to have confidence in themselves and to do this they have to develop creativity in their learning.I also encourage them to use critical thinking such as studying in a group where they can employ brainstorming, adequate time to get their assignment completed and to think outside the box by discovering other learning tools.
