As the World Turns
Let's face it. With evolution comes change. In the next generation, we will see physical libraries replaced by Cybraries, hard books by tablets, snail mail by email. It's the changing of the times. Watch out! we might all be replaced by talking robots!
I have to fully agree with your statement simply because as an automotive technician for over 30 years I still remember when we were going through a very similar phase in the automotive industry. when the new technology of closed loop low emissions type vehicles were coming into the industry there were a lot of techs. that struggled with new information coming in and some technicians just could not adapt to this new information that was required to maintain as well as diagnose and repair the new modern vehicles. some were happy to become crossing guards than to learn, accept and adapt to the new industry. As an instructor those three subjects should always be taken into account.
C,
I agree that we need to embrace the new technology that is all around us & be prepared for incorporating it into our classes.

I whole heartedly agree with you David! I have never found a more exciting time with technology and education. I feel the same way about keeping up and embracing but I can't wait to see where it all goes!
The world is rapidly changing and becoming smaller. As an instructor, I eagerly await the day when everyone is wearing a pair of virtual reality glasses and talking to our "smart watches". The dawn of a new day will be quickly upon us as teachers and we had better be prepared because the advent of new technology brings new ways to challenge instructors and students.
Apropos as to your comment about libraries, I was at a college library that had recently opened. Every structure on the library floor was on wheels because, as they find less and less need for books to be placed on shelves due to digitization, they wheel away the empty stacks and wheel in more study carrels, tables, etc., to support other library activities.
David,
and while we may bemoan all of the technology at times, there are many tools that can be used for teaching.

I can't wait to see the next generations ideas, new gadgets and the new advances in everything! These are going to be some exciting times. I just hope I can keep up and embrace these new things.
