The shy students tend to be reluctant, but join in when see everyone else participates.

William, success will convince even reluctant learners to try new things more readily.

Joyce, I'm glad you will be trying some new ideas as soon as possible.

Chloe, it is good to hear positive comments from your class participants.

Michele Deck

They like it, Most of them even ask me if we could do some of our activities with the lesson we are learning.

Some students take to them right away. The more shy among the group often look uncomfortable but they warm up when they succeed.

I have used the ball toss games and it does keep the students engaged. I'm going to try some of the other games as well.

Chakita, we must be aware that some students are stressed when back in the classroom. This idea you have shared helps to lower stress as you stated.

I find that it gets the class up and talking and it breaks up the lecture routine and students are more engaged and its often a stess reliever.

Julie, I know you will enjoy the relay and so will your active and involved students.

Amanda, I'm glad you have found a number of ideas you can use with your students.

Michele Deck

I have tried various word/definition games with scientific theories and technical material and it
does result in better retention. I will try some of your ideas also.

I am new to teaching medical terminology and new to teaching as well. This course seems as if it were made for me specifically! I have noticed students getting bored by lectures & need something to energize them and all of these ideas are great!
I have played secret identity before and am very excited to use it in one of my classes! This game fits my personality very well and I'm confident that my students will like it as well.

I agree, if you keep using the same activity, they surely will get bored of that too. Keep it lively! :) I can't wait to use the Question and Relay activity.

rosa, case studies can be critical thinking tools that give students practice for on the job challenges.

Michele Deck

I like using activities because, as I have experience myself, lectures can be boring. When I use activities such as separating students into small groups and giving them case studies, the students are able brainstorm and discuss the topic (s) among each other, which help them retain the material more effectively. In the past, when using activities, I have found to have more positive feedback from the students than if I had just givrn a lecture.

Sandra, I agree that feeling in control and that one has choics as a learner is a motivator to students.

Michele Deck

They absoutely love it because it engages them they feel more in control of their learning and I as an instructor see they truly are learning.

Alain, as long as it is wholesome competition it will act as a motivator.

Michele Deck

I use more of a candy toss. Students have loved this in the past.
