Jerrod,

The meaningful feedback, as you stated, should help the students improve. Thanks for your input.

Meaningful feedback comes in several forms. I personally make sure that I explain why they lose each point so they can correct the issues before the next assignment. Rubrics help students manage the assignment criteria before the grade has been applied and finally, announcements and reminders about progress and upcoming deadlines helps reinforce the idea of a living breathing class.

Aleksandra,

The list you have provided will help motivate students and help them work toward achieving the learning outcomes. Nice job.

Dianne,

Developing meaningful feedback is so important to help motivate students and to help them move toward the learning objectives. Thanks for your list.

Stephanie,

Can you give an example of "matching" the type of assignment?

Thanks!

When developing meaningful feedback for assignments the three most important things to remember are:

1. You need to be very specific and detailed, so that revisions can be made and learning can occur.

2. You need to make sure that the feedback is connected to the learning objectives of the assignment/project.

3. You need to provide feedback in a variety of ways, if possible. At times it is necessary to follow up with student with visuals and or phone calls as well.

I believe the three most important things to remember when developing meaningful feedback for assignments and projects in addition to the other responses are:

1) Making sure the feedback is educative and given in a timely manner

2) Provide examples..in other words being specific if the learner missed the mark

3) Ending the feedback on a positive note

Thanks, Dianne

Meaningful feedback should be frequent, clear, and match the type of assignment.

Julie Ann,

Connecting everything to the course objectives is important. The feedback we get should also be connect to that and how we are helping the students achieve them. Nice job.

When developing meaningful feedback for assignments/projects integrated into your own online course, I believe the three most important things to consider are 1) How to communicate rubric requirements and course objectives, 2) How to effectively encourage peer feedback and 3) How to encourage students to explore the subject matter further.

Amanda,

Excellent! Connecting everything back to the objectives is essential. This helps them understand what they are working toward.

Thanks!

Meaning feedback begins with the creation of set objectives and goals. Having a rubric available is a great way to ensure student know what is expected of them. Peer-feedback is good and can help the learner to understand their mistakes by seeing another students work.

Daniel,

Right on! If the students don't know what they are working toward, they may not continue to work. Thanks!

In the development of meaningful feedback, I believe that connecting the information to the learning objectives is paramount. I also believe that individualized and specifically detailed feedback would probably be much more productive.

Michael,

Great "C" words - concise, clear - and they are very pertinent to rubrics. We don't want to confuse the students with an unclear, long rubric. Thanks for your input.

Well the main thing to remember is to create a concise and fair Rubric for the class. That primary objective feeds a lot more capabilities for feedback with the students, and since I have to name two more things, I would say that they would be clarity and not being afraid to send lengthy replies to students. Making the students understand that someone is genuinely interested in their work is a huge motivator.

Ricardo,

Excellent. Many times people don't think about formative and summative assessment in meaningful feedback. Nice job.

Heather,

When you are discussing methods of feedback are you referring to formative and summative or using rubrics or some other type of feedback? Thanks for the clarification.

When developing meaningful feedback for assignments/ projects integrated into my online course, I believe the three most important things to remember to review and update rubric, formative and summative assessments.

Course material, learning objectives, and methods of feedback.
