Sarah,

Communication is essential in doing all the things you have listed in this forum. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Mekia,

Ah - put yourself in the students' shoes. That's a great way to think about what to provide to your students. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

1. Who is your student? Keeps you focused on communicating on their level.
2. What do they have to do? Make sure they are meeting objectives.
3. How can I get them to correct the error/problem? Explaining in a clear and concise way is important so the student is aware of the problem.

It is important to think of how I might feel when receiving feedback on a task that I have attempted. I try to keep this in mind when providing feedback to students. I try to make sure to include the following, in the following order:

1. Praise/Acknowledgement of something the student did well
2. Notification of items that were incorrect or did not meet the stated assignment objectives
3. Areas for improvement, with suggestions on how to obtain assistance if needed

Annabel and Eryn,

Thanks for continuing the process. Rubrics connected to learning outcomes and clear expectations are essential. Nice job.

Annabel,

Thanks for your input. Yes, rubrics are key and the criteria is the essential element. With positive and constructive feedback, the student can definitely improve. Thanks again.

Hello Eryn,

I absolutely agree with you. I believe that if you developed a good rubric, then the students will have clear instructions on the expectations and criteria of the assignment.

Warm Regards,
Annabel

Hello,

When developing feedback for assignments/projects the following items are important to integrate into the course:

1. Develop rubrics. The rubrics will assist the student to better understand the assignment expectations and ensure that they met all of the criteria.

2. Provide the student with positive feedback. It is important to encourage them and let them know what they have done correctly.

3. Provide the student with areas that they can improve upon. It is important to point them to resources and let them know how can they improve in their future work.

Warm Regards,
Annabel

Elizabeth,

Constructive is the key work in this case. Students have to understand that assessment is something we are trying to do with them not to them. That's meaningful feedback.

Bruce,

Consistency is the key and rubrics will help with that. The objecives "set the stage' for the learning process. Nice job.

It is important to give constructive critiicism so the students can improve, however it is also important to always say something positive to keep them motivated.

Fair and consistent grading
understanding of students learning style
are the objectives cleat and understandable.

Jonida,

Constructive feedback and negative feedback are two completely different things. Constructive is good - that's how we know how to improve. Keep up the good work.

i absolutely agree with you Taylor. I also don't provide negative feedback. I try my feedback to be constructive so the students can learn.

Perry ,

I think you are right in that our attitude does come through in our feedback to our students. I like your connection to learning and confidence and character as well. Thank you.

Perry ,

Yes, begin fair in your grading is important. Using rubrics will help you be more objective and fair in your grading. That will benefit you and your students.

Perry ,

Meaningful feedback does need to be individualized, constructive, positive, etc. Formative and summative assessments are both important in the process. Thanks for your additions to this forum.

Greetings!

I noted that I use the sandwich method. I like noting to students that it is appreciated when they correctly complete any element of the assignment. Learning also involves confidence, character, and perceptions, so I think helping students perceive errors a s a part of learning that can be corrected with academic tools and careful study is important.

Having a good attitude reflected in feedback can help students value learning.

Sincerely, Perry Spann

Greetings!

When developing meaningful feedback for assignments/projects integrated into online courses, I believe the three most important things to remember are:

The assignment learning objectives so that the feedback reflects the criteria of the assignment to be learned with reasoning and clear support.

The value of individualized feedback that contributes to the student advancing in the course by learning skills necessary and by being ethical and fair when grading the content using the course policies.

Using formative and summative methods of assessment to help detail the content of by using the sandwich method so that the feedback is well received.

Sincerely, Perry Spann
