Prior to taking this course, I didn't think about my presence as an authority, supportive etc figure. This made me realize online I have a greater responsibility to the students to be that better instructor and learn as much about each of them as I can, which in turn will make them more comfortable and myself as well.
This module stressed the importance of sharing my experiences, education and academic credentials with my students. And, providing the student the opportunity to share information about themselves. This a wonderful way to start the course and develope rapport with your students.
The focus here in this module revolved around relationsips; student-student and instructor-student. It is important during the fist day of class to make introductions in order to establish a relationship. As the instructor, one have create a biography in a way in order to not only introduce ones self but further expand on knowldge pertaining to course, credentials, and experience.

Also, a good way to begin to foster an environment filled with trust, respect and consideration is to have students to complete a short biography and share some parts of it with the permission of the student.

Regardless of space or distance it still remains important for an online instructor to continue to assert their influence, presence, and authority as a teacher. It is important to still build that relational capacity with students, even in a virtual setting. Having students creat bios is one way of begining to accomplish this goal.
