Here are some notes from the module:
EL103 - Teaching Online: A Student-Centered Approach
Authoring
Utilizing the Course Framework - The course framework is the road map for course development. The course framework should be used as a guide to creating a course-module template.
Creating and testing the course-module template - Creating and testing the course-module template is essential for the development and consistency of future course modules.
Creating and testing a course module - When creating a course module, the first question is, "Will it make sense to the students?"
Creating a Learning-Objects Database - A learning-objects database is a repository to store files, graphics, audio, video, or any necessary course component that may be used more than once in a course or in a variety of courses.
Using a framework is important as it serves as the guide. Do not think that once done always the same. Revision and improvement. Consistency and having the tools and knowledge to use the tools in the correct manner will improve student outcomes.
Consistency in development of content presentation, course appearance and access, and constant testing and revisiting to determine effectiveness of design and delivery of modules.
Creating or authoring an online class take a step by step approach. Each module and the lessons it contains whould be formatted in the same way to create continuity and ease for the students. The all aspects of the initial module/lesson should be tested before replicating them. Ideally you would have anotehr person use the features to be sure they work as intended. Also, it is advisable to create an place to store any digital objects created or used in teh modules. This iwll save time recreating itmes that may be useful in more than one application.
Teaching Online: A Student-Centered Approach --> Authoring
The language and format in creating my course framwork should flow and be consistent; therefore, enhancing student learning.
I see the value in consistency so a student knows from lesson to lesson the flow of the course materials, allowing them to concentrate on the content.
In this module, I learned the beginning stages of developing a course module.
I will use this information for the next time i am required to create an online module.
In this session we learnd bout making sure format are consistant, no matter if it is by area or time. Many of the items used as resource can or may be used in other lessons. We have a resources sectionin our tool that we can build assignment and taskf for use in other programs. It also allows sharing between instructors.
An organized online course is conducive to flow of the course and increasing knowledge retention within the student.
I have found that consistency in framework and information goes a long way towards student sucess.
I learned that developing the templates, you need to be consistent so the content looks the same & is not confusing to the students.
Like any other project, it's always good to start with an outline. The outline will evolve into the course framework.
I learned that using the templates that are already there wiill help save time. Also make sure that I use consistancey so students will not be lost when it comes to directions. Also make the layout similar for the students.
Module consistency and ease of use are of upmost importance. Try to design modules to look the same throughout the lesson in which you plan to distribute course content. Have others test your modules to determine whether they are easy to navigate and understand. Make adjustments as neccassary. Content should be concisive with the lesson at hand. Chunk content into smaller individually focused modules when neccassary
It is important to design the online platform with the question of What will make sense to the student as well as a format that is consistent to best navigate. Chunking should be used with videos no longer than 10-15 minutes.
I have learned to organize my module isn sucha way as to allow the studetn easy and understabdable access to the materail.
They must be able to figure out how to complet the material basically on their own so I must provide good isntructions, several examples and links for them to be successful. A database of learning is important to access chunked material to provide usable and creative ways to deliver the course online.
Consistency is key to online class management.
I have learnt about the learning management system and the importance of consistency in module template.
I will present content using variety of methods to take into account the different students learning styles.
Maintaing formats and templates current is an important component to presentation.
What I have learned from this module is about the use of language when giving instruction to students. Similar to the classroom setting as in distance learning, the language when providing instruction and direction must be consistent otherwise, students will lose focus and student learning will suffer.
