I realized that peer-reveiw was a part of our normal in-person classes as we worked together in the lab, and it is a piece missing from the online experience that I will work to reintroduce into our remote environment.

Key components of meaningful feedback include the following. The feedback provided on assignments/projects should be:

  • connected to learning objectives
  • frequent
  • positive in tone
  • automatic, if possible
  • provided in a variety of ways:
    • written peer or instructor feedback
    • auditory
    • visual
  • individualized
  • specific and detailed

These are important facts in the online learning.

great for of compretitive motivation for students to asses themeselves with peers for self motivation

Be more in tune to continually assess students and give feedback across the board.

Frequency and immediacy of feedback is critically important.

I intend to make use of audio and visual feedback. I can see the benefit of using these as opposed to just text. I do provide meaningful feedback but I do see the value in taking my feedback to the next level.

In giving feedback, asking questions to guide further inquiry or to correct frequent problems that still exist with the student's work can facilitate improved learning. Also, providing two columns on rubrics, one with a self-assessment and another with instructor assessment can help the student understand how to independently make their project better.

I never considered the use of rubrics in regard to each specific, objectivew. I' m anxious to try that in the next oline class.

I like the rubrics and will continue to revise them including adding a section about what areas did you struggle and how many areas would you change in the self evaluation.

I learned that objectives must be part of the rubric.

rubrics are important for the instructor to grade everyone same and students learn what they have have done wrong and right. feedback is important students can benefit from all kinds of feedback.

Providing a rubric and positive feedbak to the students will make learning more interactive.

There are different types of assessments - formative, summative, self and peer. I was only aware of the formative, summative and peer. I will incorporate self-assessment throughout the remainder of the semester because it can identify patterns with how students learn.

I learned about self and peer assessments and how to apply those to my on line classses.  Also I learned much more about rubics and how to apply rubics to my assessments.

I definitely need to improve feedback. I think many instructors have had the experience of putting a lot of time and energy providing feedback, only to see the student disregard it when they see they passed. But feedback can be critically important for some students.

Providing criticism must be done in a positive way. If done improperly, it could discourage the student from continuing.

I think that assessment plans need to be consistent! I have had instructors who had different standards than others. And this was in relation to safety concerns. Students were not being assessed on their use of safety related practices and we told that they could just do it next term. It is a source of contention...

Use both formative and summative assessments. Using rubrics can make the assessment process less confusing for the student. They save time with grading and provide feedback to the student. Using peer assessment helps the student see something from another point of view.

Rubrics are helpful to explain what is expected to what is no satisfactory .  helps you gauge the level of participation and learning. Rubric could also show attitudes with regard to the subject. Does the student consistantly do just enough to get a passing grade ? canbe used to see improvment or decline as well.

Feedback must be frequent and tied to learning objectives.
