Exploring the use of an audio stream for learning.
Making sure that I select the appropriate teaching method/tool that will best help the student undertstand the material.
There are several tools that instructors may use to facilitate learning. When selecting tools, look at how they are used and in what ways students can use them.
Find the right tool that works for me in teaching. Just because someone uses a certain tool doesn't mean it will work for me. I have to find my own niche
Using tools that the student can easily understand is important. The learning tool itself should not be a hurdle.
Most of this I already knew, but good reminders..
From this module, I have learned there are many technological tools an online instructor can use to enhance online learning. They can use blogs, virtual classrooms, wikis, online journals, and podcasts to moniter and enhance student learning. The most interesting is the blogs and journals, they seem to be the best tool to get student feedback in real time.
I learned how each technology tool could be used to help instructors teach in many formats to achieve students learning abilities. I would start by trying LMS and VCs, and if those weren't enough to reach students try another one.
I learned that I need to look at all of the tools I use and see which ones create the best learning experience and work best with my teaching style. I use quite a few different tools right now, but I may need to look at how I use them and if they are all truly needed.
I learned from this module that it is best to look into various sources because not everyone learns the same way. One source of technology may be more effective for one as opposed to another.
There are so many options to use. Fortunately, our district is using an online LMS. which cuts down on what I actually have to create. I use technology (Google Classroom) for posting the learning goals, etc. and any printable attachments. Zoom has been interesting to use with students. I've learned they like to use the "chat" area more than talking on screen.
There are many variables to consider when looking at teaching effectiveness and optimal student learning. These include teaching styles, teaching tools, learning environment, student learning styles, assessment alignment to the standards, curriculum relevance to post-secondary "real life," level of student engagement, etc, etc. I guess one of my take-aways from this module is that I need to reflect on my own teaching style(s) and ensure I am adapting it well in the new online classroom setting, as well as carefully and thoughtfully utilizing the appropriate distance learning tools to facilitate the optimal level of student learning possible.
There are so many technology tools available for teaching and learning, but before they are useful, they must be evaluated for the intended purpose. The instructor's teaching style is also an important factor in determining the type of tool they need.
I learned that I need to reflect on my instruction style. I tend to mostly demonstrate but need to shift this to more of a facilitator.
I will be looking into blog post or eportfolio's as a way for students to turn in assignments as well as provide feedback. I have disccusssion boards open within the LMS but worry that they don't comment as freely because everyone can see it.
there are many tools available, instructors must find a balance of tools to works with student needs. Tools must be the correct one for the task an instructor is trying to accomplish.
When used properly, technology tools are very affective
There are a multitude of tools available.
Technology tools are an important aspect to virtual teaching. Not all tools need to be utilized.
It is important to assess technology tools to decide whether to continue using it or nove on to a more efficiend tool.
