Kristine,
There are many misconceptions about financial aid. Many students feel that financial aid is given to everyone and it is for those who qualify. Also many students feel that financial aid should be free and not be a repayment.

Carly,
Orientation is definitely part of enrollment process. Orientation is an opportunity to bring the students to reality in meeting their instructors and obtaining their materials ready to start schools.
Patty Aronoff
Patricia,
The enrollment agreement and the catalog constitute the contract between the student in the school. When a student signs the enrollment agreement they indicate that they have read and received a copy of the catalog.
Patty Aronoff
JUAN,

Acceptance letters are part of the celebratory process of entering into school. Think of the pride and ownership that goes for years to come to that single letter.

You have a very solid, student centered process. Having the availability of assistance in obtaining resources to pay for school is very important in the persistence of our students.

People get excited when they realized that they could qualified to get the benefits.

Most students inquire about two things, when do they start? and when will they finish? :) Placement and Career Services is something that is frequently addressed during the admission process. Although my institution aid in helping with employment we always assure potential students that there is no guarantee of placement. Orientation and Graduation are commonly used as well. Eager students enjoy orientation as they learn about what they will be doing for the semester and meet staff and other students. Graduation can be elaborate or simply cookies and juice. However students often wonder if there will be a formal ceremony with cap and gown, in which there is at my institution.
The first is an orientation for the new prospect. The prospect file an application, take an admision test. Then they make an appointment with the financial aid advisor, and continue with the admision and enrollment process.
I see alot of the definitions within the context and the list that are the same words/definitions we use here at GAA. We of course being a career specific has many different definitions and words used within our specific program.
Financial Aid comes up all the time where I am. Explaining that there are several things that make up the definition of what Financial Aid is. This is also what Students come wanting to know more about. While on the other hand many students are nervous about what they will qualify for. The definition of Financial Aid that we use is that it is a combination of possible grants, student loans, and student monthly contributions. We also have an in house FA dept. so our students, after they are enrolled can meet with them to determine what they qualify for.
We also ask them what motivates them. We want to find out why they are wanting to go back to school and what will keep them going till school till they graduate. This also acts as a good fact finder to find out more personal information about a possible student and really help me make a connection with them.
What other buzz words do others use?
-Kris
