Steve,

The transcripts that we receive should always be in a sealed envelope from the issuing institution. Upon opening the transcript it needs to be by a validating employee such as the registrar. We need to maintain the envelopes to show the validity of its submission. Transcripts that are issued to student or do not have a Signature will not be excepted.

Yves,

The initial questionnaire that is completed during the interview process provides us valuable information about a prospective student. Make sure to take the time to fill it out completely and have a discussion with the student about its items.

Patty Aronoff

Michelle,
Your school and programs are providing an excellent community service. Scholarships can make the difference for a student gaining an education as opposed to watching that dream disappear.

Patty Aronoff

Erin,

Since advertising material is the first connection with your student, it is very important for us as admissions staff to see and experience the advertising that is in our market area.

Patty Aronoff

Some terms and definitions include:
Enrollment Agreement - This outlines the requirements of the program that the student has selected.
Responsible Borrowing- Discusses the process the various payment methods to educate potential students how the tuition will impact them.
Academic Policies - To include minimum GPA's as well as Plagiarism.

Gatekeepers- Accreditation agencies that govern the process in regard to the University.

Advertising using different methods such as brochures, flyers, and news releases, are common marketing tools used at the University.

As a program Director, I will be considered an agent of the university: a person who is employed by an independent post-secondary education institution under the jurisdiction of the Florida Commission for Independent Education.

Part of my job is to understand Fair Consumer Practices which is the honest, accurate, and equitable conduct of business and academic relations between institutions and their students or prospective students.

Hello Patty!

There are so many terms and definitions used during the admission process within my institution. One commonly used term and definition that comes to mind is the FAFSA – This stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Accreditation is another term used in conversations with prospective students. It is important for them to know and understand that accreditation is to ensure that education provided by institutions of higher education meets acceptable levels of quality. Some other terms commonly used are: Transcripts, credits, and admissions requirements. Transcripts are released from other institutions, listing the student’s academic progression. Credits and grades will be associated to the student’s scores. These transcripts and credits are evaluated and possibly matriculated when a student is completed through the admissions process. Matriculations are the actual process of transferring acceptable credits from one institution and applying it to their degree program at the current institution. This question is a good one, as there are more and more common terms that come to mind as I write this. I believe I have only scratched the surface here!

Some terms and definitions used by us:
Needs Based Tuition Discount: it is a program designed to help reduce the student's cost of education for our degree programs.
Application: official form and questionnaire that the prospective student must complete in its entirety in order to apply to our Academy. It is one of the initial and important steps in order to be considered for admission.
School locations: branch or place of study wherever any of our programs is offered. Locally or International

The term and definition most commonly used during the admission process is Scholarship. I work for a nonprofit organization. Or goal is to provide training to the unemployed or underemployed. We recevied scholarship money from public/private donors to assist with the cost of training the students. This is helpful because 99.9% of the students in the training program are not employed and therefore cannot afford to pay for the training.

At Gannon we are frequently using the terms and definitions as listed in the coursework. Almost daily we use the term accreditation, whether it be in discussing the university or individual departments. Also, advertising is frequently mentioned as well--considering that we are approaching our fall recruitment/travel season here at Gannon we must be up-to-date on our most current advertising so that we can discuss these with potential students if they inquire.

Zachary,

You have explained your admissions process very well using the definition of terms. Definition of terms provides a thorough review of the process to the prospective students by placing them in specific categories.

Patty Aronoff

Prospective students will fall into one of the following categories:
Prospect - A prospective student that has indicated interest in our university at some point.
Applicant - A prospective student that has initiated the application process.
Enrolled Student - A prospective student that has completed the admissions process and plans on enrolling at the university (usually indicated by a deposit or registration).

Other helpful terms in our field:
Reciprocity - A premeditated agreement on the cost of tuition based on different factors such as residency.
Cohort - An identified group of students that are from a certain location or entering into an academic program together.
Prerequisite - Courses or subject matter that is required prior to entering a certain course or academic program.

"Open-ended questions" are very important in admissions
in order to build report with students. These
are questions that require more then a yes or
no response.

LaToya,

The reason is that both the catalog and the enrollment agreement constitutes the contract between the student and the school.

Patty Aronoff

Dwayne,
The catalog is your guiding force. It is provided to the students so that they are aware of all the policies and procedures.

Patty Aronoff

Jenna,

Scholarships must be open to all and it needs to include the statement for those who qualify. It's a great way to provide for their education.
Patty Aronoff

Elissa,

When a student is packaged, it means that the student has made financial arrangements to pay for the tuition and expenses required for going to school. For most, it means that they have received financial aid. For others it just means they have secured financial arrangements.

Patty Aronoff

Adrianne,
Admissions examinations indicate whether not a student has met the minimum requirements of a program. Various assessments are made in order to determine whether or not the student is at least on paper able to meet the rigors of the program

Patty Aronoff

Adrianne,

Graduation rates are an indicator of how well a school is progressing. The number of students to complete the program and graduate is in the central part of the metrics

Patty Aronoff

Why is it that the catalog and SEA must contain refund info and rules and regulations. One or the other should be sufficient I thought.
