We will refer to the student catalog. We will inform the prospective student of the curriculum and courses they will be taking.
The terms commonly used in the admissions process that stand out in my mind are Accreditation, Enrollment, Enrollment Agreement and Institution. The terms Financial Aid and Scholarship, specifically are brought up most often by prospects.
In addition, I am glad to have a clear, detailed definition on accreditation. It has allowed for a better understanding and clearer communication of the importance of it.
Enrollment: Going through the process with the prospect in order to make sure they complete and submit all documents needed for them to be enrolled into the school.
Packaging: In regards to financial aid when the student needs to sit with an FA officer in order to make sure school is paid for and going over qualifications.
Tour: when we take the prospective student to see what the school has to offer and to show them the college.
Career Consultation: when we sit down and evaluate the prospective students needs and wants in order to make the best decision as to which program suits them.
Some of the terms and definitions used during the admission process include:
GRE - Graduate Record Examination - an exam taken by students who wish to enter graduate schools in the United States. The test measures: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and also provides an analysis of writing and critical thinking skills. This test if used by admissions offices as part of the process. How heavily the GRE weighs on the admission process depends on the college/university. Some universities do not require that students take the GRE.
Prospective--The term used to describe a student who can potentially enter a college or university.
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language.
This test is required by many colleges and universities to establish a threshold on the student's ability to listen, speak, write and analyze in English. International students, permanent residents and sometimes any student whose native language is not English, may be required to take the TOEFL.
Some of the terms and definitions commonly used during the admission process at my institution include:

Megan,
Accreditation is an honor that is achieved through hard work and perseverance. What will give accreditation a boost is the number of years you have been accredited and the outcomes performed by your school
Patty Aronoff
Marilyn,
People often treat you as how you look and how you portray yourself. Portraying and feeling a professional, you will find a different approach when meeting with students as opposed to that down day
Patty Aronoff
We are currently trying to receive accreditation so understanding what that means has been helpful.
What would be helpful to give us a higher percentage of accreditation?
Even we as professionals sometimes need to be reminded of this as well. Its easy sometimes when you are having a bad day to not want to dress the part.
Marilyn H
Marilyn,
Dress code is an important part of the campus community. Having a dress code insures that you are moving towards a professional attire and a habit that you want your students to have as they enter the workforce.
Patty Aronoff
Career Services: a department specialized in assisting a student with the necessary tools such as resume writing, interviewing, dressing for success as well as assisting the graduate with finding employment in their new career.
Dress Code: specific dress attire that all students must adhere to while on the premises
to prepare the student for future success in the workforce
Transcripts: paperwork that provides written proof of successful completion of credits from another school.
Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) : Law requires that the educational records of the student remain confidential. However, with the students consent, records can then be accessed.
Marilyn H
Bobby,
What a great response! You have address the accreditation question without over stating the response. You made it clear and concise.
Patty Aronoff
This is a very good question with many answers; however, I will be brief and concise. In my line of work, one of the first of many questions I receive is: What type of Accreditation does your institution have? My response is a very proud and clear response indicating, “Our accrediting agency is Regionally accredited, which means that the we are accredited by thy WASC Senior College and University Commission and regional accreditors typically certify more traditional universities that offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs.†So knowing your terms and definitions is extremely important!
Maria,
Knowing how the student found your school is very important information to determine whether or not you're marketing strategies are working. What particular item made your student walk through your door is valuable information.
Patty Aronoff
George,
Thank you for sharing your interview process. I find it intriguing that they actually meet with an instructor and even more importantly a current or former student. It's an exhaustive process but I'm sure it works very well for you.
Patty Aronoff
Accreditaion_ we Are Accredited By ACICS
Advertisement-we want to know how the student heard about our School
Enrollment- we want to know if the student is ready to enroll
Enrollment Agreement-We explain the Enrollment Agreement to the student and give them a copy once signed
Program-We explained the program to the student and make sure they understand, along with a catolog
The Interview Process: This consists of 3 separate interviews. One with the Campus Director, one with the Instructor and a final conversation with a current or former student. The student interview is not used to determine fit in the program. It is an opportunity for the prospective student to understand the training program from someone who is/was in their shoes. It also gives them a chance to ask questions they may be hesitant to ask an Instructor.
FEE: Front End Engineering is a class that starts with HTML/CSS. The majority of the class is focused on Javascript and web programming.
Acceptance Letter: Sent to prospective students who have successfully passed the interview process.
Kevin,
Every step along the way brings the student closer to achieving their dreams. The enrollment process is just the beginning.
Patty Aronoff
