Meetings
What meetings do you attend to learn more about your job, admissions policies, regulatory requirements, and your institution?
Florence,
Meetings are an important part of our daily operations and keeping current.
Patty Aronoff
Regular institution meetings, parents-teachers meetings and regulatory body meetings.
I attend meetings to stay current on programmatic changes, policies and procedures. In addition to departmental and campus meetings. This is a great way to anticipate changes and to have the latested information at hand. It also allows to get clarity on changes and current situations.
As often as I able, I attend campus meetings.
Each quarter our COO gives us a "status of the company" meeting where we get the chance to offer our opinions of the current programs being offered and for future programs that we would like to see. He is very receptive and takes our suggestions to heart. It is also important for us to do the same as he shares "where we are at" both financially and with the population of the campus.
We have weekly staff meetings in addition to the admissions team meetings. During the admissions meetings we go over details regarding rules, regulations, current status of admissions, etc. The staff meetings introduce the admissions team to new developments in the visual effects industry, provide us with new insight into changes in the school itself and exposes us to more information about each class.
At my school, we attend several meetings a week. Some about updates in policies and requirements, many about company policies and scripts content, how to help students best, reminders not to forget to mention details about career services and several invitations from professors to sit in their class to get familiar with their programs. They prepare special training classes for the admissions department and help up explain clearly what our student can expect to get from their education. We are also invited to be present when we have special guests. This week, for example, K9 unit came to visit our CJ students and we were welcome to attend to the demonstration and the lecture.
Our Chairs are also available to answer any of our questions and are often invited, during the interview, to sit with a student who is not quite sure what program would be best for them.
Lise

Dahlia,
Meetings are a great opportunity to learn and share knowledge. Asking questions can help everyone learn.
Gladys,
Program advisory committee meetings are a great way to connect with the community at large. Listening to their discussions and suggestions can give you a real feel of the career.
As a new employee, I plan to attend all available formal and informal meetings that pertain to addmision policy and regulatory requirements. Today I will attend IT product knowledge class.
i attend regular Faculty meetings, and i make sure that all admissions department attends the Advisory Boards meetings, there we get a lot of information in what is happening in every one of our programs, job openings and latest news.
At our school we have regular staff meeting, faculty meeting, instructors meeting, conferences, webinars, journals, online course such as this, newsletter, keeping up to date on the commission website for news and updates, attending annual commission meetings and also attending various meetings in the scope of practice by experts in the field. Having these meetings on a regular basis has helped to keep us up to date on all different aspects of our training and changes in our institution.
Peter,
Check to see if you have a local school association, workforce board, and the state school association for events.
Renee,
There are many ways to obtain information. What is important is the interpretation and application of the information you receive.
Duane,
You have great resources available to you. Keep on learning!
we have weekly meetings as a team and also have meetings done with consulting companies that hone in on different skill sets. We are also meeting friendly when it comes to staying abreast to the new requirements of the job and how regulatory actins affect our job.
