Regulatory Requirements

How do Commission for Independent Education requirements affect how you perform your job as an admissions representative or agent?

Tyrone,

So much is at stake and that's why we all need to be accountable. The rules and regulations protect but the student and the school.

Patty Aronoff

Well, the CIE makes sure that the Institution and it's employees are following policy and procedures. I think that is great because it holds us all accountable which is very important.

Stephen,
Misleading information or the absence of providing information is strictly regulated.

Patty Aronoff

Hugh,
Speaking with someone in the industry is a good idea. They certainly need to get a strong perspective by speaking with several different people in order to get a more stable perspective.

Patty Aronoff

Kimberly,
Excellent approach! We should always consider who we are speaking with and how the information we provide affects their decision making.

Patty Aronoff

Deanna,
Following regulations are meant to do so. It is the right way to ccnduct business.

Patty Aronoff

Sophia,
Yes, but it just plain good sense that we conduct business ethically and honestly.

Patty Aronoff

Alfonso,
You have well stated the rule on citations. They must be credible and we must provide the source.

Patty Aronoff

Melissa,

Your approach fully involves the student which gives them the basis to do their own research down the road.

Patty Aronoff

Scott,

Great way to think! We are nchanging peole's lives through education.

Patty Aronoff

We need to be compliant in every word that we say otherwise not only or we liable but so is the institution. For exaple we cant say in a pre-evaal these credits will definitly transfer over until we get an official transcript and the student is fully matriculated.

I suggest to prospective students that they check with someone who works in the particular field that they want to study, and ask them what the potential salaries are. I also suggest that they ask that person what they like about their job.

As admissions coordinator for our school the CIE helps me to better inform prospects about how our school is run. What sets us apart from other intitutions, what they will learn in the desired program of interest once we assess that the desired course id a good fit. How we help with employability skills. I always try to be as upfront and honest. I try to put myself in their shoes and put an fears to rest. OUr goal is to help them succeed.

Being in line with the Commission for Independant Education requirements keeps us to a very strict script as far as what we can say in regards to employement, transferability of credits, etc. For example, if students ask specific questions about where past graduates have been hired we can only show them current information from last year's graduating class. If they have any further questions, it is our policy to refer them to our career services department. I like that we are tightly regulated because it keeps us honest with students and to not create false expectations.

The commission for Independent Education provides guidelines for admissions representatives to remain honest and ethical. It also provides a foundation of principles for schools in Florida to collectively abide by.

We have to be cautious in what we say and how we say it. We need to make sure that if we quote something there should be a source from where we have seen this information ie: if we quote salary ranges from the dept of labor statistics make sure to let that prospective student know where you got the information and where they can view it as well that way all parties are clear and there is full disclosure.

I agree strongly, we get independent salary ranges from our airline industry, but we have to make sure they use it as a templete, advive them it's not fact.

I do the same thing. I find myself being more of an educator then a recruiter.

When I do my interviews I provide the student with a checklist of important points to consider when applying for a program and in that checklist I include a list of important websites to visit for salary information and a space next to each so he/she can write down what was found in the research and how it compares to his/her expectations. Once they have the information organized in a page I find that it is easier for them to make a decition about their future career.
