Veronica,
You really seem to grasp the importance of understanding your school's marketing materials. You made a great point about making sure you are aware of upcoming events that may be beneficial for prospective students.
In my opinion, the first reason why it is so important to review your school's advertising and marketing materials is so that you know what your prospective student is basing their 'first impression' on. Advertising is really the first thing a prospective student is going to hear or see about your school. It is important that you are aware of what they know coming in. Secondly, there could be a marketing event (i.e. open house) coming up and if you are not up to date with your school's advertising you may miss a chance to tell a prospective student about a great event or even worse, be caught off guard with a question regarding the event.
I believe as an Admissions Advisor, you should possess a full knowledge of all content in marketing and advertising materials, since these are the tools that attract and help a prospective student make a decision on what institution would be best suited for their needs. When you are speaking with a prospective student, they may ask you questions pertaining to an ad or brochure and it would reflect poorly on your school if as an advisor you cannot answer certain questions regarding these materials.
To make sure everything is the truth and that there are no promises.
It is very important to know what type of advertising, and when the advertising is comming out. This will allow you to have a better understanding of what type of lead you are contacting.
It's very important to know what is advertised about your school. A potential student has probably seen it and will question you about the content. It is crucial to answer questions with confidence and knowledge.
Well first of all, if you have not reviewed it and students start asking about it, how can you help them by answering those questions. Marketing and advertising materials generally include up to date information that every adviser should know
As a representative of the school, I want to know how the school is representing itself.
Advertising and Marketing is the method to reach our potential students. This is how they become aware of our school. The students are seeing our advertising in a variety of forms- print, tv, flyers, radio, in person~ The message all needs to be the same and consistent.
I believe it is important to be aware of how your school is getting their name out there. Agents can then suggest different ideas and ways to reach prospective students that may be useful.
It is important to know your product. You also need to be aware of what potential students are seeing.
It is usually the first line of what attracts a prospective student to your school. To be current and up-to-date on what is offered and what each program entails is imparitive to convey to students and helps spark interest.
The more informed the representative, the better informed the prospective student can be in choosing a school/program. Reviewing the school's advertising and marketing materials is integral to providing the best possible service to the student.
You want to make sure that the school is in compliance. Also, the advertisements may generate an increase in interest. You need to know what is be advertised to discuss the questions of the prospective students. Lastly, you want to make sure that the info being promoted is current.
As an agent of the college we need to make sure that what we present to the potential student is in line with the promotional materials. Also, we need to make sure the material meets all of the requirements of the state board so we are in compliance.
With the advertisment being the first lines of communication between you and the student. Being aware, current, and familiar with that message makes for a positive relationship with prospective students
I think it is very important to understand the marketing material for your school. Prospective students and their families may have heard or seen an ad and completely misunderstand what was said. Ads may refer to careers as desirable and students may take that to mean guaranteed placement. Knowing the ads and being able to refer back to them to clear up any confusion is really necessary.
Kristine,
It really sounds like you have a thorough undersanding of the importance of keeping up on your school's advertising materials.
I think you made an excellent point about making sure that you (the agent) understands the advetising materials and being willing to ask questions if you don't.
Steven,
Yes, making sure students are accurately informed should be your main priority.
It is important to be able to know what information is out there, determine the students level of knowledge about the program(s) they are interested in and assisting them to make the choice that will best suit them achieving their goals for skill development. In addition it is important to know what the organization is saying to make sure we understand what is being advertised to the customer and ask questions ourselves if we don't understand so that we can fully assist the prospective student.
