Nicole, Interesting perspective! We've never been more "connected", yet it seems so impersonal! What can you do to make it more personal?
Dr. Jean Norris

I am an Millennial but would much rather prefer written out and specific instructions rather than quick on the go. I do relate when it comes to non work communication though, I would prefer a text or email to a phone conversation. I guess that we are a pretty impersonal generation.

Connie, Thank you for posting! That is great awareness!
Dr. Jean Norris

I am a baby boomer but I like social networking. It makes me feel more in touch with the students that I am teaching. Their average ages are between 25-40 so the majority of them have a Facebook page and often offer lots of feedback when I post things.

Asmir, I want to make sure I understand, your generational preference prefers not to be contacted after work hours and you don't mind?
Dr. Jean Norris

I don't mind to be called after work.

Carol, Interesting! What is the reason for this change?
Dr. Jean Norris

I used to resist text messages, but now I am OK with them.

Nikeline, Interesting. How come you think that is?
Dr. Jean Norris

I am Gen-X , but I find working in admissions I like to work face to face as in the Baby Boomers. I am extremely driven, and like to work as a team.

trang,
Yes, this is a good way to learn for many others, too. Can you provide an example of something you've learned via a movie?

Dr. Jean Norris

i like to watch movies. thats a good way to learn for me.

Lillian, So your generation communication preference leans more toward phone or letter? Interesting! What was your experience switching your preferred method of communication to a more electronic mode?
Dr. Jean Norris

I perfer emails, ims & text messaging for communication with my student they tend to respond more quickly than a phone call or even letter

Connie,
It's great you are aware of your communication preference, and that you have adapted beyond your designated style! How do you think this adaptation came about?

Dr. Jean Norris

My generation is the "baby boomers" but I think like a generation X.
Thinking out of the box and asking questions to clarify information are a part of my thought processes. I rather test and email then speak on a phone.

Rachel,
Thank you for sharing! So knowing this about yourself, what do you do to find other communication preferences? How do you incorporate this into your preference?

Dr. Jean Norris

I prefer social networking as a form communication which may not be part of my generation. Generation X prefers email as a primary form of communication.

Emily,
Thank you for sharing you insights! Great job.

Dr. Jean Norris

Classified as a "millenial" I actually enjoy written memos such as a traditionalist does. I like written communication because it makes it easier to have something tangible to remind me to respond/acknowledge the communication. I'm a list maker- I make lists for everything- so written memos are definitely closely related to the list-maker in me.
