Brenda, These are all great materials. What else would you like to have available to you and how would you use it?
Dr. Jean Norris
Materials that we utilize to provide information to prospective students includes our course catalog, a video that shows a virtual tour with testimonials from alumni and employers, information on financial aid and scholarships, housing and motel information, maps, and things to do in the local community.
These materials are available on our website or can be sent via email or snail mail.
Barbara,
It sounds like you are using your listening skills, great job! What other materials, besides a presentation, do you use to provide information to your students?
Dr. Jean Norris
I inform the student after the inteview that I now know a lot about them and I would like to tell them about us I then let the student know that I put together a presentation which will tell them a lot about the school.
You're right, different generations do like their information in different ways. Great observation! Thanks for the follow up Connie.
The online catalog is effective in two ways, the first is that it gives a potential student insight into the schools policy and procedure. The second is that it is cost effective for the school. It saves us time and money by not having to mail it.
Some, still want us to mail the catalog to them and of course we will do that! Different generations like to receive their information in different ways.
Thanks for sharing what is done at your campus Connie. I'm curious, how effective is the online catalog with password for getting in contact with prospective students? I'm also glad that you were able to pick up some new ideas from the forum. :)
Dr. Jean Norris
Our school provides a catalog and brochure to students who have interest in attending our school. The website is very informative and user friendly so a catalog and information can be downloaded from the website using a password.
People have to send us a request for the password and that is how we get our leads. Once we send them the password, we will follow up in a few days to see if they were able to down load it, or if they had any questions about start dates or the registration process.
I think that the email or text blasts are a great idea and I may use it in the future!
It sounds like you have a great relationship with your employers and that you have some great materials. How do you address questions about local needs without materials?
We use materials from companies that actually hire our students upon graduation. Also other information concerning programs that may apply to them such as VA benefits. Normally we encourage students to do a pro/con list to decide which company has the most items they are looking for such as insurance, tuition reimbursement, etc.. What we don't have much on is local information such as transportation, eating, etc.
It sounds like you have a comprehensive packet and your contact approach related to the packet seems well thought out. Are there additional pieces that you think should be included in the information packet?
New perspective student packets; we provide a beautiful school logo folder with program information sheets, a small booklet about our school, financial aid information, a preliminary application form, and a welcome letter.
I will attempt to contact my prospect 2 times before I send the packet. If I can get them in quickly the packet may not have time to arrive. If it's a timeframe where I know it will reach them before the appointment, I will send one so they can be prepared with questions to ask during their time with me. Of course the internet is the way most of our leads come in so they are getting the same info that I am sending.
It also helps the visual learners understand the information you're providing in a better way. What can you provide to your auditory learners?
I use additional material like PDF and send the physical information, such as contact information allows the prospect to believe more in their initiative to start studying.
Great! Let us know how that works for you in future interviews. Best of luck.
I can enhance my approach and interviews with a slide show presentation, framing photos around the school of community outreach events, make textbooks available during the interview and do my best to schedule interviews during class hours so prospective students can listen in.
It's great that you're providing information via email prior to the interview. Considering the fact that we each have a primary learning style either visual, auditory, or kinesthetic - it's beneficial when we can provide materials and presentations that appeal to all three. Perhaps you can utilize the pre-sent document or brochure during your interview to provide further detail. Or consider another possibility - online schools enroll students without ever having a student step on a ground campus. How can you enhance your approach and interviews to incorporate more visual, auditory and kinesthetic elements?
Prior to the interview we send an informative email to any web inquiries or leads we receive through FAFSA. I would like to make this email more visually appealing and am currently working on a pdf brochure.
If information is needed via mail then I send out a folder containing the majority of the information to be covered in the admissions interview. I would like to change this because it leaves me worried that the information I am delivering in the Admissions Interview may seem redundant and leave them feeling bored and unenthused. A new mail packet needs to be created to leave them still feeling compelled to come in. Any suggestions?
These are all great resources Brenda. Having a variety of information can help to appeal to different types of students. Where do you collect the information about recent students that have been hired?
i use testimonials, brochures, catalog, articles, current information on careee opportunities and recent students that have been hired without their last name
