We use our catalog daily in Admissions to respond to student inquiries and when conducting interviews.
We teach Admissions Representatives to provide specific accurate information - using the catalog as their resource.
The topics that I reference on the daily are job placement and financial aid mostly because this type of info brings the students to our institution and gives them a chance to find out if they qualify for a grant so they have one less financial obligation to worry about. Most institutions don't guarantee job placement after graduation, but being that it is stated on our pamphlets it is so for we have our own department specifically assigned for that particular task.

We are quite familiar of our own catalog. It is our best support tool to clarify DO's and DON'T's to enrolling students.
Most frequent questions/references we do, are:

I use the catalog on a daily basis. I first go over the course curriculum so a prospective student understand the classes that are required as part of the training. I then discuss graduation requirements. I like for the student to understand the commitment of time they are making to pursue the education.
I get many questions regarding the difference between our Diploma Program versus our Bachelor of Science Program. This is the topic that I most frequently reference in our school catalog. Many prospective students are trying to decide which program is most advantageous for them.
Many of our prospective students have questions about our payment plans. They also want to know about the lesson plan and how much time has to be allotted for homework assignments.
Jana,
The catalog is a great reference. Most schools have their catalog reviewed by a compliance specialist which insures that the information is accurate. USe the catalog as often as possible.

The topics in my school catalog I most frequently reference are the admissions process and the prerequisites for the program. Often prospective students will be directed to me about the Massage Therapy program before they have even been admitted into the college. I direct them to the catalog as a reference tool to help them be able to complete all of the necessary steps to get enrolled. Sometimes the student wants to bypass the enrollment process into the college because they just want to go to massage school. The catalog helps me redirect them to admissions because there is no bypassing admissions. The catalog is also helpful in explaining to the students the courses that are prerequisites for the program.
Guy,
Welcome to the forum! Admission eligibility and funding are two of the most important questions for students. These areas are also areas of heightened scrutiny in regard to compliance. It is important to fully understand the students question and make sure that the responses given are accurate and compliant.

Every prospective student always has questions regarding admission eligibility and funding. It is obvious that they want to know if they qualify for admission and how they are going to fund their education to pursue their dream.

Annette,
Welcome! Cross training is a great way to prepare faculty and staff to answer questions that normally would be outside their realm of knowledge. Also the more that admissions understands about each program the better they are prepared to discuss the different facets with the prospective students.
Cindy Bryant
I would agree we discuss these topics with our prospective students daily. We do have training sessions and cross train all the admissions representatives on requirements to apply to the different programs we offer.
As many times as I've referred to our Leave of Absence Procedures, I find myself reinforcing my understanding upon every potential leave of absence request. Although procedural the same, students facing a LOA require individual counseling.
Ashley,
Virtual courses are difficult to measure in time spent. I would refer students to the catalog requirements regarding how much time they should spend in a course.
Cindy Bryant
Our course is offered virtually. It seems most students have questions regarding the amount of time they can spend on the course per day. Do they have to meet time requirements daily, etc.
Sharis,
I think that you will find that by reviewing the catalog information you will have a stronger and better team. Exchanging ideas and best practices is the true purpose of a forum. Thanks for taking action!

Joseph this is a great idea I will implementat my campus!
The Admissions Team takes each prospective student on a tour of the campus we introduce them to campus staff so they are aware of who does what for them and their different layers of support. The program schedule, classes and hours for each class because our program exceeds the states requirements, which is a huge benefit with added education for students shopping programs. We discuss professional dress standards, because our students are required to wear a uniform, attendence because the state requires 100% and cannot exceed 15% absences of the total program. We also referene licensing requirements because our students are required to take a board exam upon completion of our program.
Hi Cindy
I am an instructor, so what I reference to is the academic information and how I help with student success. I work with other departments to help with a student's overall success. I must disclose information on our program's feature's that a student would need to know to make a decision to attend our school. I make a point to be as positive as possible about what a student can do with our curriculum to become a professional.
